There are a couple things I've been thinking about doing to the car. I was thinking about cleaning the parts under the hood. I found this spray that foams up and breaks up dirt and grease then you rinse it. I'm concerned that I may mess something up by running water on the parts under the hood. Also, I've been considering spraying some WD 40 behind the wheels to help keep things lubricated, but do I run the risk of making my brakes slippery if I do that?

DONT GET YOUR OPTI WET!!!!!!!! oh wait....you have a normal ignition. cover your alternator and distributor and go to town.

i wouldnt use wd40 because it will cut the grease thats already there. i would use axle grease and find the grease nipples and lube her up that way. but dont just go lubing everything up ....some things arent meant to be greased even if they look like it. are you getting noises?

WD 40 is not really designed as a lubricant, it is a "water displacer".
It's effectiveness as a lubricant wears off quickly.
If you get your distributor wet when washing your engine and it won't start, then you break out the WD40 and spray the inside.
Don't spray anything on or around your brakes except brake cleaner.

Get Simple Green, Its biodegradable, non toxic and works better then any of the "Special" engine degreasers. And... It smells awsome. It will not bother your skin if you get it on it either, so get in there and get scrubing.

    Before...

After 1 spray down with Simple Green and a rinse, no scrubbing involved and I only use what you see missing from the bottle....

I know, its rusty under that dirt and grease. :slap:

I will get her painted up, probably after I pull it, have it punched .030 over, add a cam, have the heads exhaust port matched to the manifolds. Then some throaty 3" duals, 275/60R15 tires on the rear and 235/60s on the front.

Gunk foamy engine brite, a pressure washer, and some paint. Of course my engine was also out at the time so my results are not typical.

I also have a question on this, my car's a carb'd model and has a lot of crapola all over the place under there, is there anything special I should do besides the aforementioned things?

No offense Andy, but....I hate Windex. Do NOT get Windex on your paint...it will take the wax right off. Simple Green is the operative answer.
The reason I know is I sell an incredible polish product at car shows and learned a lot about finishes etc. I don't mention the product here...don't want to sell on the Forum. It's rude and, besides, you can't SEE the results here.
