I will admit it is a beautiful car, but I do NOT think it is a Brougham. It looks like a regular Gran Torino that someone added (badly) fender skirts to. For one, there is no "Brougham" badging on either the sail panel or the front fenders. Second, the trim between the brake lamps does not look right. Third, the wheel well molding are present and accounted for on the rear quarters, and those were deleted with the factory addition of fender skirts.
They were 4 door also, but I agree with MikeT that the red one is not. My uncle in Ontario bout brand new a exact example as the Blue 4 door in this Ford brochure pic........... I can't remember if it was a 74 or 75 but just like this one
Well, that's the first four-door I've seen. The wife of the Naval Officer that lived next door to us when I was a kid had a two-door one, and she'd get really mad when she found little feline footy prints on the hood.
They definitely made 4-door Broughams. Back in fall 1994 when I was cruising around Indianapolis in an '86 Mercury Lynx (bought from an impound car auction for $60, needed a muffler, front brake pads/rotors, and it had no AC), I was looking to even trade the car for something...ANYTHING...with cold air to take down to Texas. Some of the cars I found included... ...a bare bones first year 1970 Maverick which was straight six, manual shift, manual steering, manual brakes, but it had an underdash AC (I would rehash this once in Texas with a similarly equipped 1965 Biscayne sedan)...I couldn't get this one because the guy just couldn't produce a title for it... ...a baby blue 1979 Fairmont coupe (not the funky Futura, just a plain 2 door sedan) with blue painted duct tape where the vinyl top used to be, NO exhaust whatsoever (manifold pointed right at the ground), and plenty of rust (but hey the AC worked)...the seller was a piece of work, his idea of a "good running car" was one that could spin one rear tire on muddy grass and start with a screwdriver...this is the same guy that once in the sales office blew his nose in the utility sink by plugging one nostril and blasting into the running water...his excuse was "why use a Kleenex and blow it all over my face?"...it was all I could do NOT to run away screaming... ...a light metallic blue 1980 Datsun 310 hatchback whose AC worked at idle but cut out whenever you touched the gas pedal...I considered getting this one anyway and having it fixed up but it stalled out during the test drive and would not restart no matter what even with jumper cables, ether, and push starting and dumping the clutch...probably had major carb problems or a bad ignition module or something... ...but the one I remember a lot was a root beer brown 1976 Gran Torino Brougham sedan. The asking price was $875 and it had the 400 engine, shag carpet, squishy seats, and a brand new cream colored vinyl top. The dealer only wanted to give $200 for the Lynx so I tried selling it for more for cash. I got $350, and I saved $400 other ways, went back and it was gone. $750 might have bought it, but now I'll never know.
