Oh man, I am totally with you on the flat black now that I've owned "Surf Rat" for 3 years. No way I am going to black... but the wood is still on the "To Do" list once I get some of the dents out.
And it'll look great next to the blue in my opinion.

    Funny story about that car.
The week I bought it my sister visited from Billings MT. She married into wealth and has always owned the newest Mercedes or BMW coupes.
Upon seeing the car was was incredulous that I would own and drive something so.... old!

Well, she is visiting this very week and now 3 years later, I overheard her talking to our parents that she was surprised I was still driving that old car!
Hahahah... guess you can't teach taste.
    (still love you Rebecca. :yup:)

Been a while since I really worked up a sweat on the wagon. But yesterday afternoon, during the hottest part of the day, I replaced the twisted and bent ol'rear bumper with a much straighter example. The patina is a perfect fit to the look and I left off any bumper stickers in order to focus attention on the alignment.

This afternoon I think I'll try adjusting that right rear taillight on the tailgate so that lines up too.

Was planning on pulling out the crushed splash pan, bondo and paint the sheet metal while the bumper was off. But... didn't have the funds to stock up on the needed materials. And Rust-o-Rama is coming up, so decided a straight bumper is more important.

Also have a set of chrome headlight doors coming in the post next week.

Was feeling so good last night that I boogied out to my Son-in-law's place in the country (Cruising to Foreigner on the 8-track.) and snapped a pic of my grand-daughter sitting on her Dad's Rat-Rod pickup.
    Isn't she the sweetest thing!

I call this pic "The blond and the flathead".

Is that her other drink on the hood?
Not trying to nitpick. Well yes I am. Isn't that bumper sagging in the center?

Not nitpicking at all. I noticed that too when it was sitting on the floor of the garage. But nothing could be done there... so I tried using a jack to take the "bow" out once mounted on the car. But that only twisted the center out.

Have not figured out how to fix it yet, or even if it's worth worrying about.
But at least it's 90% better than the one that came with the car and it fits the look of the car just fine.

No, Dakota does not drink beer.
The horses do on occasion.... but my sweetheart only drinks water, juice and milk.

I thought about trying to jack up the center too. But didn't mention it because that could cause the bumper to twist and I'd be in a heap of horse do do!
In a way it looks like it should be lower to let the tag clear.
    Great picture of a cowgirl.

Partly to get the wagon cleaned up and ready for the upcoming "Rust-o-Rama" car show on the 19th and partly because they needed done.
I accomplished two things this weekend. With the weather right around 89. degrees here in Salem Oregon. After church I installed a few cargo hold down hooks.
Totally 6 (two are in the back corners and out of sight) but I really only needed the 4 to keep the tool box and beer cooler from sliding around in the back. Was driving me CRAZY!!!

The other little change was to replace the inside rear view mirror. The one that came with the car had so much silvering damage that I was down to 65% viewable area. Found a '57 mirror thinking it would fit.... but OH NO! Ford had to change that between the years so it required cutting the shaft, boring a hole and tapping new threads just to mount on the stock '58 bracket. Sheesh!!!
But now I see clearly what is behind me. :chirp:
Not that it matters much... because you know.
    They are BEHIND me!

Can't wait for the 19th..... :yippee:
