Hello, I picked up a 1963 Mercury Comet Station about a year and a half ago, and although it was running well enough to get me to a couple of car shows last year, it is now being taken apart to be rebuilt pretty much from the ground up. As near as we can tell, it has had many owners (we know of at least 7), and apparently they didn't seem to care about this poor girl, or didn't know how to properly fix her. Many things have been jerry-rigged and bypassed, and problem upon problem have been uncovered. I am sure I will have many questions as we go along, but I thought this would be a good place to start. Now, for my first question: the tailgate pretty much disintegrated when we took it off. Is the Comet tailgate the same as the Falcon tailgate from the same era? Where would I start to look for one?Thank-you so much for being around and I look forward to getting to know you :)

Welcome aboard. I am sure someone here will be able to help answer your questions. Sorry I don't know
anything about the comet or falcon wagon.

Welcome from rural Florida. Good luck.
All I know is Comet is a cleanser anf Falcons fly around in the woods.
There are a few Ford members who may be able to help.

Welcome. Looks like a great ride. Please consider a rebuild thread with pictures as you proceed. I think this could be a very special project.

Welcome aboard! Tailgates for wagons are a scarce commodity - start with the usual places like craigslist, ebay, etc. I'm guessing yours is rusted - can a patch panel be fabricated?

I would be 99.99% sure that the 1960 to 1963 Falcon and Comet tailgates are the same except for trim. But, I'm a Mopar guy. The Rev would know for sure.

Welcome to the nuthouse we cll home, Chewylewy. You're going to have fun around here. For sure, when Rev sees this he can answer, but as noted above, I believe the Falcon and Comet used the same gate, with different trim. Rev will know for sure, as he has several of those cars, buried somewhere in his garden. He doesn't grow flowers, he grows Fords! Come to that, you never know, he may have a spare gate kicking around the place. Only thing is he may have to mow the grass to find it! LOL (Kidding Rev. Sort of)

We'll get the Rev over here in a bit (I'll send him a PM).
In the meantime, welcome to the SWF.

For your question, I looked at pics of the Falcon and Comet on Google, and they appear to be the same structure.
