I am guessing 1965 Belvedere??? Mopar experts please chime in! It is rough but I bet it has neat history. Check out the windshield wiper delete and radio/heater delete. I thought the vintage race stickers were cool also.
That is wicked cool! What's the odometer say as I bet it's been accumulated a quarter mile at a time.
Looks like a Super Stock, automatic. Been a while since it's seen a run. Those mid 60's Mopars ruled Super Stock back then - better engine (Hemi), lighter weight.
That looks pretty naughty! I'm guessing 65 Belvedere too, maybe a 426 wedge?? Jim68Cuda will chime in I'm sure, he prolly knows the VIN for that car from the picture!
Interesting history, I bet........but not all at a quarter mile at a time, I bet. Why the rusted out quarter panel?
Keep in mind that car probably spent its life in the swamp with Mari La Vou. She probably used it to run into Bourbon Street to pick up boyfriends on damp rainy nights.
They won't say a lot about it but the owner every once in a while decides to get a car to restore and that is what I heard and I also heard they are flying some guy in that is going to "certify" this car or something. I think it is cool and probably has neat history but as far as it being some rare mopar, I'm not sure. Someone thinks so though because they are being very funny when I asked just basic questions like if they found it local or if they know who raced it...so I just took a couple picture and walked off. I come to realize people with high opinions of themselves usually don't converse very well with little people like me.
Sadly a car like that may have no real history or great value other than it's an exrace car. But after it gets restored all at once it belonged to some famous race driver in a far away land, like California. So who in La. will really know. Then again maybe it does have a famous history and jrwscout or GN300 will offer millions for it!.
Mike, I think it's a push button car.........we used to manually shift them..........with a big block, held in a lower gear until the revs come way up, shifting was FUN!
Former race cars, especially documented cars, bring pretty damn good money. Even a well-built car with little history can bring good money, as well. This is definitely a restorable rig. I'm betting it was either a low-option Six originally, and converted early on to be a racer. Or, a real 426 Max Wedge car (or even a HEMI car!), since it's a '65 car. With the rust on the upper fenders, it definitely does not have the S/S aluminum fenders, but those may have vanished years ago, too. It has a standard wheelbase and is not an altered car. The early stickers and overall appearance indicate some racing history and use, but by whom? The delete plates, early A100 van seats, wiper hole plugs and such are all there. Far as the rust goes, a lot of these cars were acid-dipped to remove weight, so with the rust issues, it might well be a dipped car. The quarter rust is probably due to a leaky trunk seal. That will fill up the inner quarters with water pretty easily. BTW, the Ramchargers race team was all Dodges. the Plymouth team was known as the Golden Commandos. A good link to their history here on allpar.com: http://www.allpar.com/racing/golden-commandos.html
Thanks for the link. I think it is a neat car and would like to know the history, just the car guy in me but they must know something because they are being real secretive about it at work. (The owner and 2 guys that found it)
