Drove up to the Mecum auction on Sunday and it was worth the trip. They said there were 3000 cars there, I don't know if I saw all of them but I saw a lot. In some ways it's better than the Barrett Jackson because along with the expensive high end cars, Mecum has plenty of cars that the average collector can afford. I wasn't buying so I just treated it like a giant car show. Mecum also has a thing called "The Bid Goes On". If a car doesn't sell when it goes across the block they put it in a special area with highest bid posted on the windshield. You can then negotiate with seller to try and buy it. Here's some of the stuff I saw. Incredible Nomad '60 Plymouth, probably my favorite, even wilder in person, bidding topped out at 19000 and still for sale. '94 Caprice, pretty clean, bidding topped out at $4000, still for sale One of a couple Grand Wagoneers. 1980s Lincoln "car of the future" ,not exactly a wagon Morris Minor 1952 Pontiac Sedan Delivery 1953 Chevy Panel turned into a "Woody". The wood is just paint. 1961 Chevy
That Plymouth sure is a head turner. Look at the size of those fins. Yikes! Grand Wagoneer looks to be in great shape.
Thanks for the pictures. I'm impressed by the little tents those cars were in. Make nice car ports at home.
This sold for $27000, the Mecum estimate was $60,000-$75000 so I guess someone got a deal. Here is the link to the description. http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=FL0114-173583
