those rims and other things The rims you had replaced ARE Merucury rims. They are the "deluxe trim/turbine fin" rims with deluxe wheelcovers. If you like the more standard rims, with snazzy hubcaps,I cannot fault you in the least.I've been thinking about a power upgrade on my 86 Colony Park;in which case,I would need bigger brakes---and therefore, different rims. The turbine fin rims are also real good at collecting dirt and dust and stuff---AND getting stained by them, which is probably another good reason to rotate tires---so you can stain all your rims. And yours DOES look better with the snazzy hubcaps. They give the side of the car a more "filled out" look...My big complaint about the turbine fin rims is that they give the car a spindly look:confused:...I got my Colony Park with mileage in the 60,000's,too.Not a bad age for the car,if it's been well kept. Now,if you bust a shock, especially a rear shock, get it fixed as soon as possible---or you'll end up looking like the guy at the end of this sentence.Enjoy your Colony Park, they're the finest stationwagons ever made. And make you look like the guy at the end of this sentence.
cool dude One day,one of my co-workers pointed at my Colony Park and said,"Move that Oldsmobiley looking thing!" I kicked one of the front tires and said,"See those rims, you can't get them on Oldsmobiles! They don't even fit." I'm not sure when Mercurys first started getting the turbine fin rims, but it's been one of the ways to tell them apart from "the crowd" for a long time now. They're not bad, don't get me wrong, and with the economy the way it is,it may be a while before I get to do any upgrading. And there aren't any better rims, really
RATS you two (above post) if I would have know you'd love (turbine rims) them that much I would have saved them and given them to you! LOL Tell 'em apart from the crowd? Have you noticed that fewer and fewer wagons are even out there? still like the new hub caps better. Now if I had some loot I'd be getting some 17 inch tires on some fancy new wheels. Hummm
no worries Oh,don't worry about it.What you want to do with your wagon is you---and just fine. 17's with tires that keep the same profile would probably be better for high speed handling....I've also heard that the streets of Detroit can be pretty rough.Don't be losing any of those hubcaps to potholes and such.
They have a key! Locked on! Know what's interesting metro Detroit has the worst roads yet go to Ohio and they are Great! Wait till I get the car done!
those roads Well, that's good...Hit a bump in the road once, while driving our 77 Dodge Aspenwagon. My wife looked out her window and said,"Oh look, there's a hubcap rolling down the road!" I looked over at it too,and figured out it was one off our car.Slowed down to stop and catch it,but it made a sharp right turn and disappeared down the side of the mountain we were driving on. There's this "road reputation" thing "they" got going around here;America has the best roads in the world.California has the best roads in America.Los Angeles has the best roads in California. BUT,the LA Times reports, every year, that LA drivers spend more on auto maintenance than everyone else in the state.:banghead3: "Road trip experience",thus far is;here in California, the farther from Los Angeles you get,the better the roads get. I'm sure that's true of every metropolitan area.San Francisco roads weren't very good either...And,besides,Colony Parks are open road machines.Gliding floaterboats.Getting out of town is exactly what they need.
Yup, you gotta have your wagon the way you like it. Make it your own. Just because other people may not have the same taste don't mean we can't all appreciate it for the work that goes into making it yours. Mine's redneck-ified I guess you could say. It's got more hillbilly in it than some pickup trucks, but that's just me. Some people like 'em slammed, some like them with big rims, some like it with woodgrain, and some without. The variety makes the hobby interesting. We could all drive brown woody wagons with stock 15's but what's the fun in that?
Pictures I will try to get some pictures posted this week. I plan on selling it. Anyone have an idea what it is worth? It is in great condition and has 19000 original miles.
