Hi guys, It's darn near impossible to find tailgate weatherstrip anywhere online. fordparts.com has it for a 1991 Country Squire. My wagon is an 86 Country Squire. Would these be compatible? I know the front end design was different, but I don't think the tailgate changed. Correct me if I'm wrong. On my 86, some on the weatherstrip on the body (door jamb) the strip is screwed on. Was wondering if anyone had a 90 or 91 that had the same. I'm despearate for this new strip, but I need to make sure it will fit on my 86. Attached is the link to fordparts.com http://www.fordparts.com/Commerce/P...true&year=1991&make=Ford&model=Country Squire
Same window, same weatherstripping rubber. Your '86 is a twin to my '86! Hey, ksz90, PM me the last six digits of your VIN, I'd be very curious to see how close ours cars were apart on the assembly line!
Wow twins! My VIN is as follows: 2FAFBP44F56GX120470 Did you ever have to replace weatherstrip or wood grain?
No, thankfully, it was garaged most if not all of its' life, and it's all in great shape, overall. My last six is 162173, so mine is slightly newer. Back in 1969, my Dad and his brother ordered identical 1969 Chevy C20 Camper Special trucks. They had sequential VINs, but Dad's truck ran great on regular, but my Uncle's ran only on premium!
The VIN does not reveal a build date, just the production sequence, which is the last six digits. It says other things, as well. Where you can find the production date is on the door sticker, which is located on the inside of the driver's side front door edge. The date will be printed on the upper left of the decal. Mine says 02/86, so that was mid-production for 1986. You can go here for a complete decode of any 1981-newer VIN: http://www.vindecoder.net/
Thanks for posting the info about the weatherstrip for the tailgate. I'm going to look into it too. My 85 CP gets a few drops leaking through around the top of the window whenever I wash the car. I suspect it may leak a bit in a heavy rainstorm....luckily the car is never out it in for that to be an issue. Coincidentally, I am also getting a lot of wind noise and moving air on the front two doors out on the highway....probably should get that looked after too.
I noticed that my VIN was wrong in the last post Should have read: 2FABP44F5GX120470 Commenting on the 85 CP, I assume the pattern for weatherstrip would be the same. If it was, you and I would be in good shape.
