http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/chevrolet/kingswood/1585149.html As I suppose many of us here do, I often lurk about Hemmings and Craigslist ads for fun (or perhaps torture, lol). This one in particular has been up for what seems to me over a year with no change in its asking price. So, I just have to ask: Has anyone else spotted this ad or wondered about this wagon's story? My guess is that it is over priced. I feel like it's out there as a tease, lol.
Overpriced? Probably, especially if it has not sold after all this time. Owner may have no real desire to sell it and is just playing. "But dear, I have it up for sale and no one wants it!"
That looks almost exactly like the one on Fast 'N' Loud last night. They bought it for about $6k, dropped a blown crate motor in it and sold it for like $40k or something. Here's a link to a silly bit from the show: http://dsc.discovery.com/tv-shows/fast-n-loud/videos/dragsters-101.htm
It was pretty cool. The blower was a bit overkill, but they sold it to some guys with a rad clothing business as an advertising gimmick. Other than that they left it pretty much unmolested and I'll give them credit for that.
It's my impression that, although there are some reasonably priced cars in Hemmings, most ads there ask top (or over the top) dollar. It may be like the car corral at Hershey. Most of the asking prices are in lunar orbit, presumably to leave plenty of haggle room to settle on a price that's just in the stratosphere. My budget usually tends to be at the level of the second rung of my kitchen step stool, so all I can do is drool and shake my head.
On this '70, I wonder if it has anything to do with 1970 being an off year for The big Chevy, styling-wise. The '69's looked sharp with the big chrome bumper surrounding the grill. The '70's were a little plain in comparison.
It looks to be a fine long roof in pristine condition, but if he's been trying to sell it for a year with no success, guess what. It's overpriced!!
