My name is Bob. A week ago I bought a 1987 Buick LaSabre Estate Wagon. The car was used solely to transport pallbearers back & forth to funerals. The beauty of this is that there are only 39000 miles (58850km) on it. It was always washed, dried and parked in a heated garage. It was safetied, passed and I drove it 600 miles home. It got amazing gas mileage, burned no oil and road like a Caddy. The interior is mint & no rust. Plans for this year are to clean & dress up the engine bay, dual exhaust, new rims & tires, new radio (the original AM only sucks), new steering wheel. Next year, two tone paint, buckets (hopefully front & back). Plans are just cruising and possibly towing my VW Thing to show & shines.
Nice find and awesome story behind it! Thanks for sharing. Good luck and keep us posted (with pics!).
Nice Buick, and it looks like it only has 39000 miles on it. Quite a find, for sure. Why are you getting new rims? The Buick ones seem to be in fine shape and they look great on there, so much better than the standard wheel covers.
So I see your wagon with a plug hanging out. Hope you not planning to leave that nice car outside, it is used to being in a heated garage... aboard.
Changing rims The tires are the original tires on the dar and need to be replaced, right now i can get a really nice set of American Racing rims with tires that have only 800 miles on them for less than getting new tires. The original rims are in decent shape but need mild cleaning & restoration. Many would be very happy with them, and I should be but tend to want it just a bit different, but able to put back to original with a few bolts.
Welcome to the club, Bob! While I don't doubt that they are the original tires on it, being that it was babied for 26 years and stored indoors, I remember the barely worn original tires on Mom's '87 Century sedan that were replaced long before the car hit 15,000 miles. Of course, it was an outdoor only car. Possibly when you make the switch, you'd find a safe place to store the originals. And what a beautiful wagon, please post some more pics when you're able!
Tires & rims The original rims & tires are now stored in my garage with a thin coat of oil on the rims.
