So, yesterday, I got someone interested in my two wagons (Probably for scrap, not sure yet) on Craigslist, and I have since come upon the opportunity to buy a 1985 Delta 88 with quite a few options, so if this all pans out, I may go from a Custom Cruiser owner to a Delta 88 owner. If this pans out, I'll post later in the week with pics of what will hopefully be my Delta 88. Sure it ain't a wagon, but it's still a Oldsmobile. Wish me luck guys and gals.
Dude, You ain't got a job. Maybe you should use that money to live off of until you get one. You need to quit dreamin' and face the realities of life.
If you get it, you'll still be in the Oldsmobile family. I hope it works, and if so, don't forget the pictures!
That's a bit harsh, you're passing judgement on someone you don't even know. I'll find work soon, it just takes a bit of time, it's not like I don't have room to park it for a month or two while things sort out. I'm lucky enough to have family that'll stick with me through these rough times, oh and hey, guess what? We could use another car at the house anyway. Fact of the matter is, I am facing the realities of life, and most of the things about it aren't that great, so, inherently, I'm going to try to brighten things by having at least something to my name. Not that this is any of your business, but I'm going to keep some of the money from the sale of my car and get certified as an unarmed security guard, plenty of work in that around here, no one seems to want to be a "Rent a cop". Do not immediately assume because I am currently unemployed that it will be the same way a week from now. I'm not saying it won't be for a fact, I'm just saying that there is no need for such harsh judgement upon someone you simply do not know. So excuse me for being a bit excited about potentially getting a car, and money to start a decent career I may actually be able to live on.
Good luck in all your endeavors. hope everything works out. My dad has an 83 Delta 88. Somehow he spent $5,000 last year having the 307 rebuilt. I tried to talk him into a Olds 350 swap or a LSx swap, but he didn't want to do it. Maybe because he'll be 80 in a couple months. He has wire hubcaps on it now.
For 5k I could drop in a 350 with a bowtie 700R4, and have money for some nicer things like an electric fan, working AC, and maybe new tires. Like the wheels though, what are they? Also, the wagons are sold, this Thursday they are going to a man who will send 'em out with a bang, I did not want to see 'em demo derbied or crushed, but who wants a rotting, moldy ruined wagon with over 400k miles on the chassis? Or one that's been T boned so bad the firewall is bent? I won't say how much I'm getting for both, but I'll be able to get the Delta 88, probably this weekend, I've already got a windshield lined up for it, it has a cracked one. I'll go to see my car have it's last hooray Sept of 2014, and I'll tell that Delta 88 "If you ever do me like that car did, I'll send you out this way too!". I bet it'll never break down again. Seriously though, I'm just glad the old girl is going out with some glory, rather than just being flattened and turned into a fender for a Prius. I'm going to keep a few bits. This is not the end of me owning a wagon, not at all, just the end of my current wagon. A sedan will suit me fine, it's 400lbs lighter no more damned heavy vehicle tax for weighing 4lbs over 4,000lbs, reminds me of that thing where if you weigh so much, airlines will ticket you as two people. Gee, just call my car fat why don't ya? I can't be trusted to drive a coupe. I'm surprised I didn't get into any legal trouble driving my fathers '92 Camaro V6, automatic.
Good luck with the Delta. I understand exactly what you mean. I've been wanting a wagon for ever, and it looks like it will be another 2 door for me, as I've found too good a deal to pass up on an 85 Buick LeSabre Custom 2 door. Oh, well. We do the best we can with what we have. One day the wagon dream will come true.
You know what guys? Even at my age I live on dreams. I have cars, RV's, and plans that will never be accomplished. But if I sell those items I wouldn't be able to keep dreaming. Some dreams are foolish. Some dreams can become reality. Dead Reacon I was probably among those thinking your wagon was, in reality, too far gone. But it was your dream and there was hope. I'm glad you finally realized that dream was turning into a nightmare. And don't be so harsh on the member who actually spoke some words of wisdom. Us old guys have lived dreams and watched many turn bad. Your decision shows you are facing the realities of life. Good luck. And if a station wagon is in your dreams, keep the faith and keep dreaming. This goes for all of you. As for watching the wagon being demo-ed, I could never do that. Yet it might be fun!
I'm just glad it's an honorable death, these cars won't be demo'd for many more years, they're almost impossible to find nowadays. I think that's why I sold 'em so quick, most people won't sell 'em like that. I figure, the car has done well, send it out in a blaze of glory. I'm going Friday to look at the Delta 88 I found, hopefully I can get a set of front tires for it cheaply near where I find it, the front right tire "Holds air", but not much else. I'll be sure to bring my fifty mile wonder with me and make sure the horn works so my sister in law in the van in front of me knows if something goes wrong. Probably nothing will, but better safe than sorry.
Glad you are taking it well. Now that you put it that way I'd like to watch my old car that served me well go out in a blaze of glory. Heck yours might even be a winner! Our son and his friends have little truck stock cars. His is a Nisson and he has fun with it.
There are much worse ways to go out, I just wish I had a bit more time to pull a few more parts from the 1989 Custom Cruiser. But I figure, if this delta 88 works out, once I've done a bit of piddling work to it to make sure it's solid, tires, oil change, possibly plug wires and plugs, just basic things, if I get the car, I may have to brag how much I pay for it . Anyway, once the car is solid, I can throw in a new Pioneer head unit (Technical term for a stereo), new front and rear Kicker speakers, and rock on up the highway. Well, I listen to metal, but it came from rock, so I guess that's still rockin' up the highway. The locals don't like me when I have a working car stereo, but at least I'm not blasting rap from a 15" 1500 watt subwoofer! That's worse, car goes by and your house rattles, all you get from me is a guitar solo. This Delta 88 will make a better platform for the touring suspension setup I wanted though, give it a nice stance like this Caprice build I've been following, the one I linked, like the pic below. These cars have a lot of potential in the chassis, and since it's a 1985, it's got 5A heads and intake, non swirl port, I could rebuild this 307 and get some power out of it with head work cheaper than a 350 swap would cost me. The 7A heads like my wagon have do not have a existing aftermarket intake to fit them. My father had to use the 1986 heads on the 1985 block he used 'cause the 1985 heads where cracked. Anyway, here's the Caprice 9C1 I mentioned, they named it Buford T Justice, might still not catch that Trans Am, but it might give it a run for it's money. The wheels are 17x9" Cragar Soft 8's with 275/40R17's all around, mickey thompson tires. They've done the Hotchkis suspension swap on that car too, I think the stance does the ole' beast some good. Who needs flashy paint or wheels? Make it run, and run strong, then maybe consider making it look nicer.
