I usually only want to look at wagons these days but for some reason i couldn't stop looking at a pickup truck so i bought it, and so far i love it. except for the fact that its running on propane

Propane is a lot cheaper and cleaner-burning than gas.

454 on propane should be an OK combo. Drive it a bit before you decide to switch back......

Ya it runs and drives just fine but where i live it gets really cold in the winter, which is approching closer than i'd like. i was concerned about propane gelling at a colder temp. and i've been told that you would loose 25% horsepower. does anyone know if that is true? it would be nice if i had the option to start it on gas and switch to propane on those cold days

We ran fork lifts in Illinois outside in cold weather. Maybe not Canada cold. And delivery trucks in the big cities used to run propane. Not sure about now.

I believe you do loose a bit of HP on propane but just how much I am not sure. I'm on my 3rd propane car, my 87 307 Buick but have never had any of my propane cars before the conversion from gas as a comparison. It is a bit cheaper than gas but not worth the cost to convert today as would take 10 years to make up the difference. A million years ago I lived in Deadmonton Alberta and the company van on propane had cold start issues in winter, don't ask me how or what but they had the tank wrapped in some kind of insulated wire that kept a small yet enough amount of heat that made it start no problem, but there were more electrical mods involved including extra battery etc that I don't remember. My first 2 propane rides worked fine but even where I live the cold mornings.... they ran like crap until warmed up. My Buick how ever has witch none of my others did a primer button for cold starts and a toggle switch for a higher idle when cold, makes a world of difference on cold days. I drive step grades, the 307 is no power house but keeps up with the rest on propane.

I never have looked into the details of my system as it has never failed, but if you would like I can see about finding some info..... mind you my propane system is 10+ years old, but still certified as of 2 years ago. Your province may have different regulations......

Edit...as for gas/propane combined your timing setting will be, is different with the fuels, that is why that gig back in the propane hay day did not last and owners went back to one or the other.....
