Interesting car, but seriously overpriced I think.

replacing the woodgrain is nearly impossible. most of you know it i hard to match, and AMC used translucent vinyl so some of the body color would be seen. the woodgrain on the tailgate was reflective too. there are few things odd on this car. the hood ornament wasn't available til 1976. the a/c hoses under the hood are misaligned, and it looks like it doesn't have tinted glass, which was recommended with a/c. it may be worth it if had the 401 V8 but that was nearly impossible to get 1975.

my 75 has some rust but is a lot cheaper!

    hey, hey, hey, what?

"ALL NEW OLD STOCK"... :yup: ...I've seen where AMC also did other weird things with their "sidings" one was to make it look like leather instead of wood. Another was made to look like Mercury Yacht Deck woodie, but old and worn out already. It looked bluish in the pics I saw. There was one, and I only saw it in pics where the cars were drawn, where it was supposed to look kind of like that metal paneling some people make their bumpers out of... $5,000 does seem a little steep. But then, there's all that "rarity" involved.

amc had a limited run of special rebel wagons for one year. each had distinct woodgraining. after that, woodgraining was pretty much the same until the late 70's. i am glad my wagon doesn't have it.

i wish the guy luck getting 5 grand for the wagon. "rarity" doesn't translate into high demand or big bucks. amc made about 9700 matador wagons in 75. so they are not impossible to find. a 78, the last year of them, would bring a better price.

we all on here appreciate wagons, but also know they are not the body style that brings in the premium money. and even though i am an AMC freak, they are on the bottom rung of the price ladder

    those people

It was about ten years back. Was watching one of those TV Auto Auctions. Forget which one. A 67 VW Beetle came up on the block. The show's announcers were talking about how the owner had one of these when he was younger. Bought one just like it. Fixed it up nicer than his ever was. Now he was selling it, even though it was a cherished memory maker and he'd spent around $30,000 on the restoration--- They kept talking about how nobody was going to pay enough for him to recoup his investment... And they were right... It sold for $3,500... Some nice old VW vans have been selling well on those auctions, lately. But, nobody's showing up with more Beetles for sale. Like you said, some brands, some models of some brands, they just don't bring in the bucks like owners think they're supposed to. Sadly, most AMC's foot that bill. AMX's will go big. Not as big as Camaros and Mustangs. But bigger than Matadors. And yeah, there is more to it than the silhouette. Volvo wagons are okay, to me, not that special. I don't see any of them selling big like a Nomad or a Ford Woodie any time soon.

I think it's a blessing in disguise. Because the "long roof" editions don't sell for as much, it makes them affordable for us regular joe's.

I have noticed that... The Tri-5 Chevies that sell for the most are; the two door convertibles, then the two door coupes, then the Nomads, then the four door sedans and then the four door wagons. The sedans and wagons also have a tendency to have the more original style powerplants. Personally, I'd like to have a four door wagon with a 327. A period build. Saw one at a car show once, with a Shasta camping trailer in tow. They had matching paint jobs. Looked quite sharp...

i saw 59 rambler ambassador wagon and period trailer done the same way.

all this has me reminiscing. all the stuff we had as a kid, if we kept it in good condition, we'd still have today: hotwheels, g i joe's, trading cards...my parent's 64 classic wagon...287 v8, vintage maroon. i can go broke buying old wagons...OH ALREADY DID THAT!

I can't believe  Rambler(AMC) put that woodgrain on the dash right behind the instrument facings! :slap:
