Hi all. My name is Corey, I am 18, I live in Illinois, and I own a 1984 Pontiac Parisienne wagon. It was my grandparent’s wagon, and they bought it new in 1984. It spent its whole life in a garage and it was undercoated by Rusty Jones when new, so it was well preserved. I always admired it, and would enjoy riding it in whenever I could. Well when I was about to turn 16, my grandma gave up driving. Instead of selling the wagon, she knew I needed a car and she knew how much I liked the wagon, so she said I could have it if I wanted it. Well of course I accepted it. I drove it daily for 2 years, and it did not leave me stranded once. Well at the end of October this past year, I decided that the wagon was not going to see another salty winter again, so I got a Chevy truck to drive daily. The wagon is about 99.9% rust free and I want it to remain that way. It has 112,000 miles on the clock and still runs and looks like it is brand new. The air conditioner went out so I had it retrofitted to the R134a freon, and the paint started to look a little shabby, so I had it repainted the factory color (light brown metallic), but other than that and basic maintenance for a car this age (brakes, tires, spark plugs and wires, belts, shocks) it has been relatively problem free. I enjoy driving it as much as I can, and can hardly wait for spring to hit the streets in it again. Thanks for a great site, Corey
Welcome Corey! Glad to see some more young blood with the wagons, I'm also 18. Love to see pics, especially since a repaint! Glad y'all kept the wagon in the family!
Welcome to the forum. Great to see someone young that appreciates wagons like these. And the fact you have a great attachment it.
Thanks for the warm welcome! I will try to put up some pictures sometime in the next few days. I haven’t really taken any good pictures of the wagon since the repaint, so that gives me a good excuse to fire it up and pull it out of the garage.
Now that's a good lookin' wagon. Wow, when I was 18 I wanted a Mustang, Camaro, or something of that sort. It takes maturity to enjoy these old wagons. Congrats!
Beautiful Box wagon, they're gettin' hard to find. I actually saw a Parisienne sedan today, and kinda geeked out. Them are gettin hard to find too. The lady friend I was with didn't understand why it was so exciting, but that one (an 84 I beleive) and a 87-90 Caprice Pulled into wal-mart within minutes of eachother, a heck of a day!
Its funny you mention that you saw a parisienne today because I did too. I was driving home today and took a different route than I usually do. On one of the side streets I thought I saw what I believed to be a caprice in someones driveway, so i turned around to check it out. I pulled up and it was a pontiac parisienne wagon the same color as mine. I get closer and saw it has a "for sale" sign in the window. It said that is an 84 (same yr as mine) and it was $900 obo. It even has the same options as mine. The guy came out and I told him I have this same wagon and showed him a picture of it I had on my phone. He said he purchased it 2 years ago off an older couple and no longer needs it. It is a little rusty and the interior is kinda beat up, but it ran well. The guy said that he would call me if he got desperate and wanted to unload it for a couple hundred bucks.
Trust me I would like to have a Camaro or a new Mustang just as much as every other 18 yr old would (actually I prefer a 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT-8), but I don’t even want to know what a car payment or insurance would be on a car like that. Pair a really fast muscle car with an 18 yr old kid and insurance goes through the roof. The wagon is the perfect car for me. Not only is it cheap to maintain, but I enjoy working on it and it has sentimental value. Nothing beats the comfort of these big wagons. It is like driving a living room around. I can’t wait until winter is over so they can stop salting the roads and I can start driving it again.
Welcome aboard! Nice story. You're the second guy here who kept a family car from day one. Congrats. When you get to college, it will be you're livingroom.
Welcome to the forms Corey! Your model Pontiac's hold a special place in my heart. I grew up most of my childhood in the 80s and early 90s, my area here in the Chicago burbs where filled at one time with Buick, Chevy, Olds, and Pontiac wagons from '77-'86 or so wagons. When I was in the Cub Scouts, my leader had a Parisienne in deep blue wood sided one that was from ( I think 1986) and the first girl I had a crush on, her dad drove a dark rootbeer brown Parisienne from 1984.... Shes looking great though, its nice to see guys your age knowing the true value of a station wagon like that. You joined the right place to keep her on the road for many years to come. Jonny
I had my red '77 Country Squire while in college.....it being a living room is an understatement.....tail gate parties, getting four or more kegs, driving drunk kids back from the bar.....it just wasnt another car, it was like having another good friend. Jonny
