Trying to install rear jump seats in my 68 ltd wagon. Having trouble with the backs. Question: there's a bracket on the side of the backs that has a post on it. Does anyone know how that mounts to rear of foot well? Any help, advice, or pics would be really appreciated.
In the cars that came with the jump seat option, I have been told that there was a hole drilled into the back wall of the tub that had a thimble shaped receiver tack welded within the hole. There are no indentations, or punch out marks where it should be so you will have to measure twice..three times... and drill once. What I did was used stacked wood to simulate the location both with the seat back in the up and down position. Otherwise when you drop the seat back the floor may not line up correctly. It was not easy. In a perfect world, you could measure where the holes were drilled from the factory in a wagon that came with the jump seats if you are lucky to have access to one. Also once the hold is drilled you need to tack weld in a female receiver in the drilled hole for the seat back pivot (thimble shape) so that the elements are kept out. I used a conical drill bit and made sure to drill it just large enough for everything to fit. Hope this helps. PS the holes that are drilled into the back floor that goes over the back surface of the tub are in no way anywhere near where you need to be. I do not know what they were there for. Dr B
Dr B - that is a huge help-thanks, do you happen to remember what you used for the female end to receive the post? would you happen to have a pic? Yeah, I am not sure why the have those two holes there either? Dosen't make sense....thanks again
I have not built the sleeve yet. I made the hole just large enough for the pivot pin to barely fit in for now. I have to have to make the parts and have them tack welded in..
I installed the seats Friday night, won a trophy on Saturday at an annual car show- wagon was a big hit.
Brian, Very nice job! Did you figure out anyway to fasten the seat bottoms to the back sides of the tub? I think there was a small clip that was originally mounted that the seats sat on to keep them from tilting oddly. PS Still would love to see any up close shots of original factory installed seats!!
thanks Dr B... I still have to attach to well. It is odd that they don't go into "indents" in the front of well. I would really like to see the factory mounts as well...
