I've logged one before and there were under 5 members online, but as I post I'm the only member on line and 22 lurkers....... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XErftbBE_5Q Well thats coffee break, back outside for some more island chain saw massacre wood work EDIT..... Creeeeepy, I posted and guess who show up! wdtenn, Krash Kadillak, mashaffer
Dude, Those aren't lurkers. They are web bots gathering everything you say and cataloging it for all to see.
I tried to visit Station Wagon Forum a little while ago, and the site didn't come up. Maybe there was a bridge out on the information super highway. But I made it here this time.
Same thing happened to me ah few hourz ago Jim. Thought I finally shot myself in the foot or somethin' Thanks Stef, I promise tah be gooder then good honest, Jer
A lurker is already a member, but one who never posts anything. They are like the guy who hides in the trees watching everyone around the campfire have fun. They always have some lame excuse for not posting anything. They are voyeurs, who might be the same guy hiding in your bushes and watching what you do in your bedroom at night. Turn the hose on them and give them a good soaking.
I too had problems with the site not responding earlier today, so I went out to the garage and worked on the wagon.
Now I have more questions. Can a non-member come on the site to lurk or look around? I know on some forums guests can look around at part of the site. Not being able to do this also creates extra members who only sign on to do that snooping or lurking then never come back for different reasons. As OldFox says, possibly voyeurs leave because I am sitting around in my Fruity Looms. And further more, I had to switch to Firefox because I have been having problems with scrolling and freezing up and signing in many places. That even happened on Firefox here earlier, apparently during the downtime thing. I just ran off someplace else. See all the neat uses we can make out of these useless threads some members make up!
We have dogs for this reason.....lets save water I didn't know the site had a 3 mile island ordeal today:confused:
I thought a lurker, AKA "guest" was just that...a non member looking around? We need this explainacated! I also thought a lurker was a non member. But I suppose a lot of shy quiet members, like me and Tedy could be called lurkers too.
Well, when I come onto the site, I'm logged in. IMO if your a member and have to lurk while logged off, while being on the site...........why???? Paranoid , bed wetter perhaps ..?????
It seems the site had a lovely hick up earlier today, but is purring again now. As far as I know, a lurker is a member who reads posts but never contributes, just 'lurks'. Non-members have some access to the site, but not full access, and they are 'guests'. To all the guests who read this I say: "Come in. The water's nice. We don't often bite, and you may just learn something. We may as well!"
In internet terminology, a lurker is someone who joins but never posts. A "guest" is not a voyeur. He is a drive-by shooter who point, clicks, and moves on. Web crawlers (bots) also show up as guests, but they aren't. They are planted by all the search engines to catalogue information for when you do web searches. They also use them to plant the proper advertisements to websites with a common interest when the forum owner allows such. Every time a member clicks on a forum, there is a bot watching what he writes. Big Brother IS watching you.
