Great looking car, and if the final price is fairly low, someone will have a really good car to drive. The only thing I see needs immediate attention is the dual exhaust. I would never have a wagon with the exhaust coming out below the back bumper like that! Just not safe at all. One thing for sure, it shows just how bare bones a car could be back in the 70s, considering this was the 'deluxe' model! Not even the tail gate window is power on this car! About the only option this one does have is the a/c, which is always nice to have.

Looks cop with those blackwall tires, black steel wheels, and dog dish hub caps.
    Looks more nun than priest.
All the priests I've ever known drove big top-of-the-line Cadillacs or Buicks and always had their golf clubs in the trunk.:)

I'd put a set of 15" Magnum 500 K-H Road Wheels on this, dark-tint the glass, and re-route the rearmost part of the exhaust to the outer corners. Oh, and find at least, a factory AM/FM/8-track to replace the AM unit!

I like this one! And just 500 miles away!

Patrick: That is an EASY run in either of you cars! Go for it! Just stick an AOD in the Torino, and you'll be amazed!

An AOD would be tits! That would give another three to five mpg, but it would depend on the rear gears, of course. The mid-'70s Fords and Mopars tended to have gears in the mid-twos (2.54, 2.28), so an O/D would not be of much good here. With a set of 3.23 rear gears or numerically higher, the benefits are definitely there.

    *whimper*

This is my kinda car. I'd give up my sedan to have something like this as plain as it is. And yes, it definitely needs an AOD swap and I've got a nice little Audiovox cassette deck to put in there. I'd keep the small caps but paint the wheels to match the paint.

Patrick: The 351M has PLENTY of torque low down, so taking advantage of the overdrive does pay off in the mileage in a big way. This one likely has the same 2.49:1 that my 78 Thunderbird had. Getting the revs down under torque peak is the key to mileage, and with a peak at 1650 rpms, the AOD with the stock 9 inch rear is going to give you much better than you suspect. These old Ford engines were strange beasts until you got used to them.

As a practical measure for me, I'd swap gears to at least 3.00:1 to 3;23:1 along with an AOD for the full potential, plus decent tow capabilities without blowing the O/D out. Very nice car. If I could sell the '91 Colony Park...

Now that my transmission in the sedan is rebuilt and the engine is running as close to properly as I can imagine, I am noticing with the louder exhaust that even with the 2.75 rear I have, 3 gears isn't enough. It's definitely spinning over 2K above 60mph and that's not working out for me. I need an OD. I wish I hadn't spent $900 on the FMX, I'll never get that back out of it. And the only rear gear I could change to in order to get the revs down would be that 2.47 or a 2.50. It's barely a 10% change and not even worth it. I hear the 9 3/8 axles in late 60s Lincolns have 2.33 gears but to make them fit in a 9 inch axle requires grinding and it's just too much hassle. I may have to switch to larger tires and a 2.47 but by the time I do all that I might as well sell my FMX and get an AOD built instead.
