I've been using a 95 Saturn wagon for my daily driver for a while because of the mileage. But a while back, I went out to look at an old wagon this guy had for sale out of his "collection" and the last thing he showed me was a 74 Cadillac pickup that he had painted and stuck in an old barn five years earlier. I was coverd by birds on the outside and mice on the inside. You really couldn't tell what color it was. He gave me what I thought was a fair price and delivered the truck the following week. Luckily, one of my grandsons was here for a couple of weeks and he helped me clean it up. Or should I say I helped him clean it up. It was disgusting. It's been in the shop getting new brakes, carb rebuild, oil change and tune-up for the past three months or so. There aren't many folks around here that work on carburetors, and only this one that does Quadrajets. He's and ace. He's got this old jewel running like a top. Just had to locate a hose for the high pressure side of the power steering system and it is supposed to be ready by the end of the week. I really don't have any trouble getting in or out of these big 'ol Coupe doors.
That is cool!! I like the rally style wheels, one of the better conversions I have seen. Thanks for sharing!
I just joined the Cadillac Owners forum to try to gain some info, but it sure isn't as "user friendly" as this one! I like the truck, but I wouldn't mind it being a wagon instead......
Yes, the tailgate is functional. When I bought the truck I wasn't aware that there were companies out there that custom built Caddy "pickups". I thought it was an old flower car. It could still be an old flower car, but I understand those didn't have a tailgate. I really don't know that much about it. I just know that I can easily get in and out of it and it runs, rides, and drives really nice.
There was a company in Texas did a series of these, using the Coupe de Ville, and they left the quarter windows in place as sail panels. Really sharp, too. This one looks a bit more home made than that, but still a really neat effort! You are right, though, a wagon to go along with it just to complete the set. Try for one using the de Ville, not the Fleetwood, as the base. You end up with a 4 door hardtop wagon. We saw one for sale not so long ago, and it even had the clam shell in operational condition.
Wow, even the same color as the car beside it. Since it had mice, is the smell gone? If so how'd you get rid of it?
We took the seat out of the car,and I took it over to the upholstry guy to be de-done. I took the carpet and the backing out as well. Then we sprayed the entire interior down with Fabreeze. Left it outside with the doors open for a couple of weeks, weather permitting. Can't tell the mice were ever in there. I won't put the new carpet and seat in it until it comes back from paint.
Found out today that my friends at the body shop picked the Caddy up while we were on our little Buick excursion to Illinois and they've already started on the body work. Is life good or what?
Found out through one of the "old" guys that hangs out at the bodyshop/social club that a friend of his built the Cadillicious back in 1989 in the shop in his back yard. It's held up pretty well for all that time. We ground some of the bondo out and applied some thinner coats that should hold up better as the chemical companies have made considerable improvements along those lines. Should make the car weigh less too!
