Do you think I should put in some frame connecters? I have been trying to avoid them because some of the require that you cut the floor to install them?
I remember my friends mother had a wagon like yours that had the skyline roof. We used to go to the drive in in it and it was a blast. Pretty fast too. She asked me to put a tune up on it for her once and it had a 401 four barrel under the hood. The paper work I found on the car said that it was a stage one 401 and made 360+ horsepower. I loved it. It was the only station wagon I knew of back then that could do a big ole smokey burn out! My friends mom used to take it to Orange County Racetrack back in the old days before it closed!!! Very fun car!!
The scoop is just for clearance. Just like the original factory scoop. Which was mostly for clearance. There is a high pressure area at the base of the windshield that the openings of the scoop take advantage of but they also had some hoses that were ducted to the radiator support on either side of the radiator and eventually into the two openings for the inner headlight buckets. I just like the look of the air cleaner and the hoses.
frame connectors Well I would look into them before you ruin your wagon....maybe they came up with something else to use instead I don't know ........Phil
Just 360 horsepower . . . . that's granny stuff!! Howdy Cockroach Dave and assertive wagon fans, Awe shucks, just 360 horsepower . . . . so sorry she got one of those underpowered models!! Mine would be considerably more fun . . . if my assertive engine was actually - in - the car. It is looking like the work will start early in January. Sure looking forward to get my trusty wagon back in service!! Cheers, Edouard
Priced frame connectors on line. Holy smokes! But I guess I had better add them to my list of things to do with the car. Makes sense. Better to have them and not need them than to need them and not have them. BTW Have you some experience with this on your car?
I was working at a local drag strip in the 70's I had a friend with a 66 gt 350 and we found the rip....started checking and found several HP mustangs with this problem the stamped sheet metal was to thin.....my buddy welded a brace on his and sold it
I dont suppose you could tell me exactly where to expect the thing to start ripping. I might have a look when the weather gets better.
Dave the tear started under tha a pillar visable with door and hood open It sorta ran down along the cowl...I think with the high torque your little motor will have you will need to do something...if ford did something to beef up the area on hp cars i doubt they did anything on a grocery getter....jmho....Phil
nope...now quit makin excuses....come get me........... connectors would be a good idea and Mopaw is giving you good advise!
Well Dave you probably wont see anything now you never a lot of horsepower before........if it was mine a would just keep an eye on it.............
Have checked with Crites Performance Products for subframe connectors? They sell them for $125 a set. They are made to order so it takes a few weeks.
If you don't mind me asking, whose HEI is that and where did you get it? Been looking at DUI's and the units sold by Summit, so input would be nice. Before anyone says "why put a GM dizzy on a Ford motor", I have a 351W in my 71 Mustang Fastback, and wanted an HEI for it as every old car I have (except it's teammate which is a 71 Mustang convertible w/302; wants an HEI too) is a Chevy with an HEI. Would mean never having to deal with points and not having to stock any other parts for ignition repairs. Oh yeah, bitchin' motor, me likey! Tom
This is a proform distributer I bought off EBAY. Got it for a great price and then bought a high voltage coil for $45.00. After I got the power wire sorted out, It started first try. Easy to install and I like the terminal separation as it prevents spark surge between points. I think it is really the only way to go if you are on a budget.
