I HATE having the rug pulled out from under me! If someone tells me to consider something I am selling as sold I give them ample time to close the deal. Apparently some people don't deal that way! Had a hell of a deal lined up on a big block for me wagon and told the guy consider it sold and I would come see it tomorrow and pay him and he sold it today!!!

*******! Sorry had to say it!:banghead3::Blasting_anim::cussing::mad:

    Bad deal all around.......

I've been very fortunate in the purchase of the '81 Safari. The seller has been very patient with me, waiting approx. 2 weeks while I got my money together.

There were just some similar threads on another car forum I am on. Most answers were they felt sorry for the buyer who missed the deal. But also most responded with "money talks!"
So many people in business of selling anything have been told just what you said and then the potential buyer never shows up. I like to say I stand behind my word. But truthfully MONEY TALKS.
I've missed these once in a life time deals. The car or the parts were not as described. They were already sold by the time I got there. Or the buyer decided to double the price.
As far as censoring, this is a family forum so we do need to be policed now and then. There are times I'd like to say more than dagg nab it!:(

It is a bummer when a deal falls through. I would say if you put money down to come back the next day that would be one thing...... sadly after years of whealing and dealing I dropped $50 cash down to hold a wagon and the litlle POS didn't just screw me out of the car, but my $50 also! First time for everything I guess.:cussing:

Having sold many things over the years the couple things I have never done is "hold it with no cash no refund", or "hold it with expectations of, """I'll be back tommorow""". I know it doesn't help in your case, you most likely did go back to buy it and I believe you:). I even lost a sorta(?) friend a few years ago while selling my sister inlaws truck online local....he showed up wanted me to hold it a week till pay day,no $ to put down. I refused and said, good chance it will still be here in a few days, come back when you have the cash. Through the grape vine I heard about him saying that I screwed him, would not help him etc......All he had to do was come back in a few days when he had the cash! (it was not my truck to do any budy deals) The truck stayed for sale for another 3 weeks before I sold it for less than his offer.....the buyer had cash in my hand................

unfortunately.....honor and honesty are few and far between nowadays.

and that goes for Sellers and Buyers !!:49:

If i hada buck for every putz that has said..."give me your address...im comin out"
    ....then never shows...or apologizes....i'd be stinkin rich(y)

I had a guy from here waste hours of my time a couple years ago doing just that !!

I had a couch 4sale on CL....couldnt tell you how many dorks wasted my time !!
then this young couple call last night and beg me not to sell it...saying they had lost out on 3...because people wouldnt wait for them to get there...........they were here in 30 minutes!!!!
They were sweet kids ...and broke !!...so..I gave it to them for free !!

I have NO doubt that your as honest and sincere as the majority of us....
....but as sad as it is.....the world we live in has changed....and we live in a 'money talks' world now !

I just hope that there is such a thing as Karma...for both of us ;)

The deal was being made over the phone on a Sunday afternoon. I told the guy consider it sold and I would come by the following day after work with cash. I called him later to get directions and he said he told his dad the engine was sold but when he returned home from the store his dad had sold it to someone else and they were loading it up! Money talking or not that right there is BS! If someone told me to consider it sold I give them a reasonable amount of time to come through. As far as profanity, on the board goes sorry but sometimes ya just gotta call an ahole and ahole!

I agree with you on that deal. Sometimes having others get involved really messes things up. It wasn't the guy you dealt with it was the dad. And he probably didn't know about the phone call deal or figured he'd be helpful.............. *@t happens!
Maybe this will take your mind off the lost engine.
Bought a midnite blue 64 Ford convertible around 66 from the local Ford dealership just down the street from our house. It was closing time so the salesman said it was a deal, come back tomorrow after work to sign the papers and get the car.
Got home from work next day and the Ford was in my driveway. I felt so happy----- until I found out my brother-in-law now owned it!

Bought a 1957 red Chevy 2-dr HT with continental kit, skirts, etc. The exact model and colors I dreamed about. This was at a small cruise in and the owner had lost his license and was in a divorce. We shook hands but no money was exchanged because he said it would be in the locked garage waiting for me when I got the money Monday. This was Friday nite cruise. Monday, money in hand went to the house. Now his wife's house. His wife's garage. She sold the 57 Chevy and it was on it's way to Texas.

Took my buddy to look at a 1929 Model A 2-door about 25 miles away. No one home but we could se it in garage. Looked very good for a cheap price. Called and told the people I'd take it after I got home. Done deal. While at work next day buddy went up and bought the Model A. Ex-buddy shortly.

    And there were more.....
Yep MONEY TALKS. Don't this make you feel so much better? It's been nearly 50 years and I'm still cryin in my beer!:drink::(:rant2::cry:

I've heard stories like this and yes, it takes all kinds I guess. I've been amazingly fortunate with all the people I've dealt with on Craigslist. I've had (so far..knock on wood) all very positive dealings with people. Makes me think that MOST people are good, it just seems like it's the idiots that really stand out when a deal goes south. Keep pluggin' away.. MOST people out there are honest and trustworthy.

I guess it happens to all of us. Son-in-law and I talked to a guy about a 57 Chevy wagon for sale a few weeks ago, on a Monday night. He was 75 miles away. Soonest we could see it was Saturday AM. Got directions and set up for 8am. He sold it..........so we found the 67 Chevelle wagon a few weeks later.
A friend in Scottsdale said he had an engine for sale, when I told him we bought it. Don't want a 454 for the Chevelle, but I sure do for my 71 C30. Told him SOLD, and that I'll pay him Friday at Goodguys, and pick it up the following Friday. It'll be there.

Whenever I'm selling stuff and someone tells me to consider it sold, I make it clear to them that the item is not sold until I have their cash in my hand.

Similarly, if I'm the buyer, I don't expect a seller to take the item off the market unless I give them a deposit.

That way, situations like yours are avoided.

You've got a legitimate beef if the guy said he'd hold it and then sold it out from under you...
