I think the difference in 'good' sound vs. bad with a V6 and loud mufflers is the V angle. The old Capris and the later GM 2.8 and 3.1 engines used a 60* V angle...No missed firing pulses. My old '78 Firebird, even with the 'even-fire' 3.8 V6 sounded like crap with the turbo muffler on it. The Taurus 3.8, even with the stock exhaust, didn't have a pleasing sound. I think it all boils down to firing order and even firing pulses. Think about how cool an old vee-dub with headers and a glasspack sounded, and how rough a fart-canned Subie sounds. Same type of engine, different firing pulses.

I'll take a good V-8, properly tuned and set up, any day when it comes to mileage, especially on the highway. Nothing can beat them in my books. And the sound is unbeatable.

Whisler - the owner/builder of that 2-door Malibu is not on this forum. The builder probably used regular 2-door coupe door glass. Stickman's chopped roof 2-door wagon probably used custom-cut 2-door glass as well.
