So I used to pass this old decrepit house with a k car wagon and a pariseene wagon everyday to and from work. I kept thinking one day I'd stop by and make a couple hundred dollar offer on the k car, considering I wanted one, bad! Well, I lost my job and between no income and not passing it everyday it fell on the back burner in my mind. Today, I saw an ad on craigslist for the 2 cars being sold from an estate, so I jumped on it and wrote an e-mail (no phone number of course), and fly out of the house to go look at it, considering its only 2 miles away. When I got there I found the pontiac, and no k car. I think someone beat me to it. I really think I'd have gotten it for the cheap offer I wanted to give too. I mean it would have needed work, but damn. Sorry, had to vent a little. Actually a little upset about it. Maybe I'll find another.
Those do come up from time to time, but IMO, the only one worth going after is the little Chrysler T&C..... You're going to have to pay a bit more than $200 probably, but a lot more wagon there than a Reliant or Aries
I know, but I love me some bare bones. I had a 91 acclaim, great car but I had to sell it for my truck which I needed. I want another, but a wagon, so thats what I'm left with for options. I don't want bells and whistles to break, just crank windows, basic radio, and a/c to fix would be nice. And I would get the Parisienne but I have no need for it... too big and too bad on gas. And if I buy it to flip it, lord knows how long I'll keep it... Maybe, we'll see. If I can get it for a song, I may, but I can't keep it.
You just have to convince yourself something bad would have happened if you got it. Like a blown transmission or maybe you might have broke down in the middle of nowhere! It works everytime.
Be glad you didn't get the K-car wagon. Back in 81, when they first hit the road, my Mom was in the market for her first wagon. There were 2 that we fit in that were worth a look. The K-car and the Volvo 240DL. Of the 2, the Volvo was the less expensive if you optioned them as closely as possible, and the K-car didn't do all that well on fuel especially loaded down. An Aunt bought a Reliant at about the same time, so the comparison is fair. Her Reliant used almost as much fuel on the highway as my Brother's 86 Parisienne Safari. The Reliant was also a PIG to keep running right. They weren't really decent until fuel injection was added. The carbs on the early one were terrible.
Just posted 2 K-cars for sale in the Auctions section......one's a Reliant going for $595 (ad's a bit old though)
Well, good to know about early fuel economy. My 91 acclaim did GREAT, like mid to high 30's highway, mid to high 20's in town. Just really want another 2.2/2.5 but really either with a turbo, or in a wagon, or both. Looking into a turbo 88 aries sedan, but I don't have that kind of cash on hand at the moment. Will keep y'all updated when/if anything happens, and if I go back, I'l grab a pic of the pontiac wagon.
It wasn't meant to be then. As you said, you aren't working so buying an old car is not really the wisest thing to do right? Perhaps fate knew that the car was to be a money pit? Then again what do I know? LOL Every car I buy ends up being a money pit! Ha!
Well, I actually am working again, just about 2 months now luckily. But yeah, perhaps it wasn't worth it... I guess I'll never know now. Oh well, you win some, you lose some.
