Yeah, alot of people say how cheap gas was and a loaf of bread, etc back in the day, but to put it in perspective, the average Joe made like what?, $35 a week back then?

 

Compared to Europe (and especially The Netherlands) even with the consideration of inflation, gasprices in the USA were always very cheap... some people there are complaining about paying $2.50 for a gallon nowadays...here we pay $ 6.95 per gallon

 

I don't complain about the gas prices...... I know gas is cheaper here than many countries. It's funny though that the ones that complain the most are the ones that drive SUV's and whatnot. If they want to complain so much about the gas prices, they should've gotten something more economical...

4 litres to a gallon....unless i've benn doing it all wrong in my head for all these years....which is possible

 

Actually it's 3.8 liters to the gallon.

We are within a day of $3.00 per gallon for 87 octane. This morning it was $2.98.9. I never could figure out why the .9. Why not even numbers?

 

how else could they hose you 3 bux a gallon and make it sound better

...oh...and the Canuck gallon is different...

 

I remember a trip to South Carolina in 95 we got gas in Greenville at .85 a gallon stood there and chuckled at an $8 fillup!

Wait just a minute.....what a bargain. And you guys don't have to pump your own. Premium in Ridgecrest is right at $3.59 per gallon and we have to pump our own. No full service here!

What full service...? We get some idiot....who tries to fill up your tank and then dones't check the oil,tires, wipers, or clean your windshield....!

Half the time they will give you the wrong fuel...or overfill....and you wait while they are havin a smoke and idle chit chat...
I'd rather full up my own car...

Mais Oui, mon Cherie Steven Harper! Get them prices up and collect those $5 billion in GST taxes to reinvest $400 million in Canada's potholes!

Of course, Stefan, you have remember that the Alberta Oil Patch doesn't charge Provincial Sales taxes and that's why Harper has to subsidize the Exxons, Shells, PetroCans, and Syncrude Tar Sands to the tune of $1.5 billion, to research the Clean Air Options for the greatest Greenhouse Gas emitters in the world!

What's interesting is that Eastern Canada's gasoline comes from Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East, while Western Canada's gets exported to US refineries and shipped back up here to us from the US.

Funny how a single refinery fire in Montreal boosts the prices right across Canada with a week! And then another one goes 'off-line' for 'Maintenance' and pushes the price up even more!

Did you see that news brief on CTV, last November about the guy in Toronto who distills his own Ethanol for the week, from his newspapers and junk mail? Water, Yeast and Newsprint (or dry grass or weeds). He was brewing 70 litres a week (one tankful, and had an extra 70 as backup.)

Here, the home of Prohibition liquor during Al Capone's days, its still legal to brew 400 litres at home (100 gals.) Some farmers still have collector tractors using Ethanol. Lucky for us, eh?
