I did a search and didn't come up with much. I am considering lowering my wagon. Right now it is leaning about an inch lower on the drivers side. Drivers side measurments are front wheel well -26", rear wheel well-24". Passenger side, front-26.5", rear 25". My forum search came up with a few posts about cutting the springs, I can see how that would lead to the car leaning if not careful. The car sits pretty low as it is, but maybe I could drop it a few more inches. I am thinking a 2" drop would be plenty. I have new shocks on it. Would cutting about a half a curl, or maybe a full curl suffice? What would you rate this on a difficulty scale? Any hints, tips, pros-cons appreciated. Thanks, Ron
If you can afford it, I'd order new springs front and rear, with a specified lowering amount. Since it's already not level, and the springs are probably original, you'll most likely have problems with cutting the springs and getting the wagon to be level from side to side. I'd be leery of cutting the springs, if only because you may have to install/deinstall/adjust and I hate doing work over. I'm lowering my wagon now with new springs/leafs front and rear. The original springs in front were pretty weak, and the rears had a broken leaf in the stack on each side. I'm taking this opportunity to put in new Moog bushings all around to tighten things up. Good luck!
Good idea. I will have to check out some of the spring prices. Sure would be nice to have it sit level. Thanks
Suspension changes are much like the rewiring problems, it's better to save up and replace everything new than mess with things that will never be right. New springs and all the other componants may cost a little, but will need replaced sooner or later. Whacking off coil springs is a hit a miss thing and is too much work to keep repeating. Often cutting just one coil is too much. Don't ask how I know!
