I know it almost makes me throw up. I hauled these 3 cars to the scrap yard last March. 2 1958 Chevy Brookwood Wagons with all the trim parts in the trunk, and a 58 Chevy Sedan. They brought around 1200 for scrap. I now wish I had refused to take them for the guy. I just did the hauling.

That last wagon was toast, but those other two could certainly have been rebuilt. Thing is with wagons and sedans, you will always end up putting in way more in to the restoration than you could ever possibly hope to get out of it when it's time to move on.....with hardtops and convertibles you don't necessarily go so far in the hole. Usually easier to find repro parts, too.

Danged, I just puked! Not a good choice of words but fitting! But we all do things we later regret and just don't have room or money for everything.
Two out of three were keepers for sure.
Maybe you're not fired but go sit in a corner for awhile and think about it!
But admitting you goofed is part of forgiveness.:D

I think I'm gonna cry. What a shame. It's too bad when some folks just send this stuff to scrap. I bet he could have gotten triple the scrap value for the trio by private sale. But who knows, maybe the guy was hard pressed for cash and needed to pay some bills.

All too often people don't want to spend the time dealing with 20 or more people that are going to hassle them over price when it comes to old car parting out. A number of yards around here have just stopped selling to the public since they can get some fast cash by scrapping them. True, there were a lot of good usable parts, but to get $1200 out of them a piece at a time is difficult. I have seen people offer less for running cars than they were worth for scrap. The reality of the old car hobby is that there are a lot of people in it that just don't have any idea of values. I paid $100 for one piece of molding for my car, because I needed it, and there just weren't any available. I was told by some friends that I was crazy. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and go with paying the higher $$$$, but there are many that will just not do that. I have seen people try to straighten a fender and spend 20 hours doing it, rather than spend $50 to buy a perfect fender. I guess that their time isn't worth much.

I would've lied to the guy... taken the 1 to the scrapper and the other two home to a "soon to be" pissed off wife :rofl2:

Talk about patina! I'm loving the Brookwood that wasn't in the accident. Are you sure they got crushed?

$1200 each? Wow, scrap prices are up in your area? I was guessing he got closer to $300 apiece. I know I could have used the front door off that one. (See my other post...Ouch)

yep......watched the loader haul them to the scrap pile...........And that one got torn up mostly from us dragging it out of the woods. It had no motor. The one in the best shape had a complete engine.

Im gonna try to scan and upload the title and bill of sale tomorrow. Its as cool as the car.

:tiphat:There once was a private hunting club along the river. The owners donated it to the State as a park. Very pretty. Day before it was to be dedicated and officially opened we got to camp there free. Also camped under a highway bridge wherever that may be in Front Royal. Just a tidbit to keep you from puking anymore. Wife, son, and I were only people to get a tour of the cave one day! No one else showed up. Made us feel special. :taz:
