it's called a 3 on the tree young'n...or to be correct in todays day and age..."anti theft devise", because nobody knows how to use a "3 on the tree":D

Love your wagon, loks so clean and honest...even love the mags! love it even more because of the old school 3 on the tree in a 70's ride.:2_thumbs_up_-_anima

Mine is a 67 Belvedere II with 318, automatic and factory air with 52,000 original miles. It needs paint and a tailgate and some other minor body work. I bought it a year ago from another member here, but a buddy of mine in Massachusettes (who I consider to be an authority on 66-67 B-body Mopars) helped facilitate the purchase and has been storing the car for me. I still haven't seen the car in person.

I learned on a stick, and grew up around old cars where 3 on da tree was still common.
Floor stick usually have the shift pattern somewhere--either on the knob or on the dash.
Not column shifts. You have to imagine the pattern or learn it first hand.
"If you cant find em--grind em."
That's what I use to hear growing up when most trannies did not have syncronizers in them.
Luckily,my 3 on da tree is fully syncronized except reverse.

Ok old pfffts here's one for ya..
    "granny shift"

Waygun, that is so cool that you've got a V-8 with a three on the tree. I always preferred them on the column over the floor. When I was 15, (and unlicensed), my brother went into the Marines and I was in charge of taking care of his '59 Chevy Bel Air 4dr with a 6 cyl/3 on the tree. Whenever I could, I'd sneak that car out and go cruising all over the county. Loved that column shift. By the way, I never got caught either!!
