Can you get temps without the pink slip?

Can I do this through AAA? I will get a membership to make it easy.

One thing to look for on this wagon. This model has alot of the lower edges of the rockers and lower rear quarters covered by trim. All that trim in those areas can trap moisture and dirt and promote rust. I would expect minor rust behind that trim on this car, but inspect those areas carefully to make sure there isn't evidence of any extensive rust through hidden behind the trim.

Yes. Please, by all means...get the CORRECT material on that seat! That car needs to stay original.

Well, I won't be able to keep it completely original. I have to add seat belts and some were already added.

Ok. Talked to AAA and they said I need to contact UT DMV and get a temporary permit to drive.

Adding seat belts is one thing....changing that original period perfect material is another thing entirely.
But it is your car. If you buy it. :D

Good news. Since the DMV in UT is only open Mon-Thu. My boss will let me take a day off. So, I can have it towed to the UT DMV, get the temp permit and be on my way home.
Still think I could go lower? Could it hurt to try?

Couldn't hurt. Show up with cash in hand and make the pitch face to face tho. Let her meet you and work on her a bit, see if she's willing to soften to the idea. Still, if the rust issues, as Jim 'cuda discussed, isn't an issue,... her price seems fair. In my opinion.
    Happy shopping!

There's no question in my mind that you have to do what you have to do to own this Ambassador. What a find and it looks to be in great shape. Sure, you can always try to beat her up a little on the price; as you say, it can't hurt. Best of luck. I hope you can work things out.

I'm not saying you SHOULD do this and I'll probably get flamed for it, but I have been known on occasion to take a plate off of another one of my cars and slap it on the new car and drive it home. In Michigan it is legal to buy a car and drive it straight home with no plates (at least it was years ago when I checked).

Get a temp tag from the dmv or drive without one. The fines will be much less and most likely dismissed if you are ticketed without a plate and can prove ownership and puchase date. Hanging another plate on there... I wouldn't do it but I do know people that change the plates from car to car so often that they use magnets instead of screws.

I used a Florida temp plate to drive my Grand Prix home to Michigan. It was a cheap and simple process.

Also, Florida collected the Sales Tax and gave me a receipt/affidavit so I did not have to pay the Sales Tax when I registered the car in Michigan. You might want to verify how that Sales Tax process works; you don't want to pay Sales Tax in both states.
