we have 3 2nd generation ford escort wagons. they haul alot of stuff, you can sleep in them comfortably and they are pretty tough. I just drop a zetec mengine in one and put 4 wheel disc brakes. went from 80 hp to over 130

    Welcome :)

Escort wagons were nice. Had a '93 5spd myself that I loved. It had 250kmi on it when parked with bad rear strut towers. No knocks.. oil usage.. awesome car. Yea you could pack tons in there! I fit in my super capacity Amana washer AND dryer in mine and still had room to pack stuff around them when I moved

    Welcome to the forum!

Growing up, I remember my dad bought a Ford Escort wagon when they first came out, I believe it was a 1981 model.

Later one of my older brothers aquired it when dad got a shiny new 1985 DIESEL Escort wagon. :)

Eventually I aquired that one myself for several years when my wife and myself were first married. The MPG was awesome, but even routine general diesel maintenance was rather expensive for a young family, not to mention how $$$$ it got when something actually failed.

Finally retired it when the injection system failed, and repair estimates started approaching the thousands.

Still, that wagon attracted attention, as few people knew Escorts were even available with a diesel.

Not to mention it had a powerful anti-tailgaiting defense...pushing in the clutch and reving the motor would envelope any unfortunate tailgaiter in a huge black cloud of smoke, I'm talking about the kind of smokescreen that would make James Bond proud. :)

I had bought a really clean 95 Escort wagon in April 1997 for the family business I'm in. One of our supervisors drove it for a "company" car. later on I wound up with it for awhile when we sold some stores off. We traded it in with 2 other vehicles to get Dad a new 98 Isuzu Rodeo. When we were starting out in the early 1980's we had a 81 Escort wagon but it was a total lemon so we didn't kept it long..

its super fast with the zetec. im still using the 1.9l computer I put gt disc brakes in the back and 94 up in the front. ive also installed poly urethan bushings a manual rack and pinion and since im tall zx2 seats in the front. next is get the ac working again add power locks swap out dash cluster for one with tach, add a diff exhaust system and remove the auto seatbelts and add manual . i did add tilt column and window tint along with 15 inch wheels(alu) it was a pretty easy straight swap with only minor mods, but I cant wait to blow by these rice burnes that thinks they are hot.

i had 4 wagons, but one had a salvage title and I was tired of replacing front driver tire. after i started to dig into it, i found a strut bolt had been ground in half(thickness wise) in order to align it. needless to say car has been parted out and cut in half. I plan on making a trailer with the rear half of the car. it was a fully loaded wagon and they are pretty uncommon but oh well im not gonna drive a death trap. they are tough cars Ive hit 2 deers with 2 of the cars. 1st one was only cracked paint, and second one was a buck and he crapped all over my car when i hit him it cost me a hood fender bumper grill and a little bit of my nerves. worst part he got up and ran. on the first one that night earlier I had been talking with my coworkers and I said oh ive never hit one and 5 miles from my destination blam she got up also and ran. its kinda funny to watch them slide across the road with all 4 legs stiff and they are on thier back and side spinning i still chuckle when i think about it
