Hi everybody, my name is Andrew, I'm 24 and bought my first wagon today; one of the elusive 77 Cougar Villager wagons. Now I am on the hunt for parts as I will be doing a cosmetic restoration. I am in desperate need all of the window seals/weatherstripping and will definitely need new vinyl for the wood grain. If anyone knows where I can find any seals, please let me know; the car needs them bad, especially around the tailgate. Thanks everyone
They are so elusive, ....that with no pics.... BS, never happened ,,,,but what I said above.... , lets see some pics.
Welcome Andrew, how exciting your first wagon. So tell us more about your plans. Do you have a family that'll be sharing your wagon with you? Glad you found your way here...others will be around soon to give you some direction.
Welcome jademerc77. You'd better come up with some pictures. These people get violent! Have fun on your search. Weatherstripping and seals are gonna be a problem. Always have been. Always will be. But keep checking. Some places sell semi universal rubber that may work out. The vinyl woodgrain is do-able. There have recently been stories and tips on where you might look. If you don't get some pictures soon this and all other info that may help you will self distruct! Did I say good luck? Have fun.
OK Andrew, You've stepped up to the plate and hit a HOME RUN. You've got a very rare and unique wagon. Think of all the reactions you're going to get when you tell people you own a Mercury Cougar........WAGON. Most will probably think you are nuts. Cruise around the site, post up some pics when you can, then get that 'Project' thread started......Welcome to the fold. Marshall
to the wagon train, jade. Well,,,we always ask for pix but in your case we REALLY want to see some. That is a rare and nice wagon! Weatherstripping is always a problem as mentioned. But stick around and look around....some guys have found some.
well everyone, i've been trying to get a pic on here but can't get it to work. the car i bought is actually on this forum's list of pictures. it's the dark jade green wagon that looks like it's in arizona with the ugly chrome wheels and raised white letter tires. i will try and figure out how to post a pic soon so nobody thinks i'm a liar.
Here it is, vinyl is a little faded now but I'll fix that in due time. Thanks for posting that old pic of it Krash.
DAYUM! That's a beauty, jade!! I have always looked at that car and admired it. That vinyl, from here, looks like it could be refreshed.
I wish it could be but the passenger side and tailgate are really bad. It's also cracking in several spots and I noticed some surface rust starting in some of the cracks so I will eventually strip everything and start with a fresh canvas.
Very cool! How is it that, after decades of being a car guy, there's still something big like an entire domestic car model that I've never heard of? A Cougar Villager?
Basically what Mercury did was nix the 'Montego' nameplate on their intermediate sized car line and replace it with 'Cougar' for 1977. So for instance, the 'Montego' 4-door sedan became the 'Cougar' 4-door sedan, etc..... There was also a 'Cougar' wagon in 1982, but this time it was based on the Fox-body platform - basically a luxury version of the Mercury Zephyr... Our member Tbirdsps had one of these until recently....
Nice car hope you find what your lookin for. I'am the other guy from N.michigan, what part are you from?
