Anybody else attend a fathers day car show this weekend? Here is a picture of my 1962 Galaxie 500 Country Squire Station Wagon (listed for sale here). Still looking for the drivers side front fiberglass fender trim. If anyone comes across one, please let me know. I would paste additional photos but I do not have them with me. We ended up bringing in a 48' & 52' chevy 5 window pickups, 55' Chevy 5700 LCF moving truck, 62' squire wagon, 64'? VW bug, and a 70 Jeep Gladiator J4000 4x4 truck. The VW was the only "real" show car, but we all had alot of fun. I was able to score a gold fender globe for the wagon and possibly a horn ring from a very nice lady that loved galaxie cars and t-birds. Post your pictures below.
Thanks gunman. Nice wagon. I fondly remember the very first car show we put our 1955 Chevy wagon in. We cheated and put it in special interest against kit cars and midget racers on Fathers Day 1990. In 55-57 Chevy class a 1957 HT always won against our 1955 sedan. First time out of our driveway with the wagon after rebuilding for three years. Show was over and they were announcing winners. Got to third and second in our class so we started to leave. Won first in class. It never was and never will be a show car. We were so happy! Winning is fun. Driving is great.
I like to think we started something with bringing in the old original (dents and all) cars since they are increasingly popular. Something about the cars you can touch and drive. Jrl
Everybody about sh*t a brick when we drove in with this!! We had a moving Permit and decided to bring it along on the way to our property.
drag Nice car, it looks like it will hook up good. Does the rear end pull hard to the left when launching? Somthing that short with that much rubber is probably a handful in the quarter mile.
Thanks! The rear tires are actually the smallest cheater slick that I could find (26x9.5x15), and no, not a handful at all. It walks to the left during the burnout, but then hooks perfect during the launch and drives like a Caddy down the strip, straight and smooth. This car is actually the points leader at Bunker Hill Dragstrip in the Sportsman class this year with a 14-5 round record.
I've never dragged, but done enough burn outs. Just put in a 350 hp+ chevy SB in my brothers 52 chevy. If we can get it to hook up I hope it will run high 12's. Problem is, it's not set up for that speed. No roll bars ect..It will do a burn out in 3rd gear by romping on it. What fun.
Sounds like a sweet project! My 350 is very mild (GM Vortec 5700 crate short block), and has roughly 375hp, with 3.90's out back, which nets me 12.60's in a light car. The '52, I would imagine is quite a bit heavier. Just my opinion, since there are a lot of other factors that could change this (rear gear being a big one), but I think you will be in the 13's. Oh, and as far as NHRA rules go, you are not "required" to have a roll bar until 11.50 (although they are never a bad idea in a strip car). I plan on putting one in mine over the winter.
I volunteered at the Eyes On Design show. It's a fund raiser for the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology (DIO) and all the money is used for awareness and programs for the visually impaired. There were about 300 vehicles on display; all entries are by invitation only. There were about 15 "Forward Look" Chrysler/Dodge/DeSoto/Plymouth beauties, a big group of scooters and motorcycles, farm tractors and some very cool customs along with the perfectly restored specimens you would expect. This year's theme was "Designing for the Future", so there were a lot of vehicles that were considered ground-breaking when introduced. I only took pics of a couple of my favorites; thought you'd like these: 1953 Willys wagon - really liked this one! The Willys interior Front view of the Willys I talked to the owners of this 34 Ford Sedan Delivery. They own the camera store that is advertised on the vehicle. They found period-correct fonts for the lettering and even duplicated the correct Kodak logo/trademark from the mid-30's. This thing stopped me n my tracks! So cool! Second time in 3 weeks I've seen this 53 Buick at a local show - it's a very nice car... Love these tail lights! 1960 Chrysler Imperial... It was a great show and the money went to a good cause. Might help out again next year!
Your probably right. I'm sure it weighs 3000 lbs. It sure pulls hard. We will try and go drag it a couple times to see what it will do. I'll try and post a picture. JRL
