I have a 1961 Red (used to be) Rambler Classic station wagon, lower cancer on drivers side floor, haven't start engine since fuel left $1.00 a gal. At that time still able to do 27 mpg in overdrive. I do need a rear roll up window. The Heat caused it to explode so must replace. Any one rebuilding out there, might be interested in selling, I have the original Rambler glove box manuel. All original:Welcome: I am retired from working for a small town in Wyoming. I have wife and one small dauchshund.

yep! $1.00 a gallon, and now $3.52,Approximately 10 years ago. I bought the rambler new in 61, what a prize she was all decked out in chrome and glistening fire red color. 670x15 tires, now they are newer size 710.15 slightly oversize but works well in the wheel well.. I Guess I need to get the fire back in the belly to go back to restoring the old girl.

Welcome aboard. I see that you are also into HO model trains. I think I last ran my HO scale model trains back when gas was $1 per gallon. In my case its cause the train layout is in the attic and after years of winter cold and summer heat, the tracks buckled and I can no longer run the trains. Now, if you promise to get that wagon of yours up and running again, I'll promise to get my model trains up and running again.
Heres my HO model train layout. Now lets see pictures of your wagon.

    WoW! Jim

That's a great layout, it looks like you were quite serious. Wonderful. My layout is in the middle construction or as a friend carefully added destruction. I got dishearted by reverse polarity so maybe after looking at model railroaer mag. This month shows
a plan to build one. I'm not sure. I will try and clean mine up see if I can send a pict.
The Rambler, now that's another story, but there is still hope.
    Thanks for the reply!

Great response. It is amazing the old motor cars, autos burnt leaded gasoline only problem the smell people complained really was the bad rings the the owners didn't replace or change out soon enough !

    Model RR

When our second son and I built our model RR in the basement gas was around 39.9 a gallon before a gas war. Then sometimes around 25 cents. I remember 19.9 but could have been even lower back in the dark ages when I was just learning to drive. I'm still learning and it was $4 till a few weeks ago when we got this downward trend. What a bargain! $3.60. Uncle was a switchman for C&IM RR and had a lot of really old Lional trains. When I extended his layout in Grandmother's basement I cut holes in her basement cabinets so the track could cut thru. Only time I remember granny getting upset! They drove a 1960 Rambler 4-dr.

That is really neat, Yea I bet your grandma didn't like the cabinets cut up for train. Well gramps, we got run our trains somewhere and this will be the only kitchen with train running through.

Yep I do remember the gas wars of yesterday 19.cent a gallon , Jello package for 3cents. But then again we are not spring chickens any longer but we can still remember the fun we had back then, well sometimes it wasn't always fun.
