Sorry 'bout being gone so long, neck surgey & rehab have limited my activities til now. My post is to see who has the most documented miles on an original engine. Maybe this has been brought up already, but if not, I'd like to start a search for the longest ticking heart of our rides. The Griz has 273,000+ miles on the original 305 in him. I will be posting some pics of him tomorrow to share with you all. Have fun with this little "contest" & let's see just how long our rides have been ticking! my 63 Falcon is the only high milage car i own...and ironically...the speedo stuck at 180,000...and was that way for 11 years...till i got it and put another cluster in it 3 years ago....so?....yur guess is as good as mine
one of the guys in my local car club has 3 roadmaster wagons 2 93's and a 96 one of the 93's had 497k on it (he just sold it for parts...but he kept the odometer.). highest ive owned was my red 95 f150 at 167k miles when i sold it. 2nd was my 76 olds omega @ 136k miles and then my current truck 94 F150 @ 129k miles
Woww,, I just scrap'd out a 1995 Dodge van with 500,000 on it.. Just got too dang rusty to keep going.. The 1996 Dodge van I have has about 270,000 and my 'daily driver' 1998 Dodge van recently turned over 200,000..
as far as i know it went to the grave with all original drivetrain i always liked the 94-97 ram vans. always thought it would be a cool starter for a home made custom van.
My father-in-law has a '83 K-5 blazer with a 305 that has a little over 300,000.He bought it new and was the only one who ever drove it.The engine has never been gone into.I had a Dodge ram 1500 with a V-6 that had 236,000 when I sold it to my uncle 2 years ago.Last I heard it had around 280,000 on it but the transmission was rebuilt once at around 165,000.
Yeah....pretty amazing right? and now that you have said that, GN300, I haven't heard any of the tic tic that comes from a 305/350 lifter that has weakened or collapsed! You know....I'm pretty torn between keeping the engine all original for as long as I can or dropin a 350 in him for a little more get up and go!
With those 70's and 80's Chevy trucks, the drivetrain might last for a long while if you take care of it, but the interior will fall apart by 100k for sure.......maybe sooner.
Because I drive mercedes and have done forever, high mileages are par for the course. My daily is 30 years old and has Only 103,000 miles. One of my others is a 1956 220a which was put off the road in 1978 with 218,000 . my 6.3 has 320,000 but I have had a 280SE which we clocked 700,000 and a 300E with 650,000 . Both of the latter are still going and running well with no engine work and original trannys etc. A regular oil change is about all they need to keep running properly it seems. The later models are all rubbish though and i wouldn't reccomend them to anyone.
