okay so my car has a pretty nice dent on the back pasenger side door. any ideas on how to get it out? the paint looks good still and from the looks of it nothing chipped. i took some pictures but they are not that good. ill try to post more up later.
If you don't want to mess with the paint and it isn't too bad Dent Wizard paintless dent removal may be able to take care of it. Car dealers use them get dings and dents out of used cars before they go up for sale a lot, they'll do anybody's car though. My brother's car had a bunch of hailstone dings and he took it to them and you couldn't tell anything happened to the car when they were done, and no paint touch ups, amazed me. http://www.dentwizard.com/
You may be able to take the door panel off and push it out yourself, can't really tell from the picture but if it is creased as BlueVista stated dent wizard can take care of it.
Don't even try this!! Let a professional PDR (paintless dent removal) guy take this out and whatever door dings you have on the sides (trust me, you have at least ten little ones if you look long enough). Many times, you can get a nice package deal for him to do the whole car at once versus pay per dent. I found a professional pdr guy who does it out of his garage so no over head. He does all the dent/ding removal for the top auto dealers near me. Good luck. Ted
I agree as I stated can't tell from the picture but looks like it may be creased and need professional removal but it is worth looking at first before writing it off as a repair you can't do at home.
Advance Auto sells a paintless dent removal kit. I bought one for about $20. I do body work at home and a guy brought me a motorcycle fuel tank with a dent in the side. It was pretty heavy steel and no way to get behind the dent. I figured it would be money wasted, but I had to get the dent out. It took some time, but it worked! I got about 90% of the dent pulled out. I still had to put some mud on the area and finish it, but I was really happy with the results. The thin metal in a door should be a lot easier.
i don't think the dent is really that bad and I'm not worried about the paint on it because i plan on redoing the paint. but here is a better picture.
Unfortunately, this kind of damage usually stretches the metal. I doubt if a dent puller will work. The metal will have to be heat shrunk. That is apply heat (torch) to the damage and immediately cool it with a wet rag, as well as bringing the low spot back out with a snatch bar, puller or getting behind the damaged area. There are also shrinking hammers and dollies that work without heat. I am afraid a body shop will have to repair that one unless you have some experience. Actually, a replacement door might be the way to go. It will be cheaper than the repair, since you plan to paint the car anyhow.
You may have seen videos similar to the following which use a heat gun or hairdryer and compressed air. I've never tried it and cannot say whether it works or not. I've seen some videos where it was successful, others where it was not. It might be worth a try if your dent is shallow and not creased. Good Luck. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bElooqDJVco&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILVWPzO_swY&feature=related
good point i was thinking about replacing the door but i am still going to take it to a body shop and just see what they have to say as well. hopefully they can offer something as well.
