He was down to $2000. But this car wasn't even close to nice. Needed interior, paint, driver's door was dented (School bus hit it), etc. I figured once I painted it, did an interior, and suspension I'd have a ton of money tied up. I've bought enough bad cars in my life and really had to walk away from this one. Need something quick...just sold my daily driver.
You'll find a nicer one, Irace, I guarantee you. There's an old adage, "Good things come to he who waits", (my mom used to tell me that all the time), and that's nowhere truer than when dealing with cars. Hang in there, you'll find one.
I'll be glad to come help out. But i have to warn you I am the modern day Tim Taylor of tool time... I do need to tell you I have a disability but still work my way around with little problems. There is a late 80's Country Squire in Thomasville for sale on HWY 64 and HWY 109 at a car lot for $1250. Might still be there.
Welcome to the group and all the best for your search for the right wagon! We're looking forward to visiting your area next Spring for the Southern Railway Historical Association Annual Meeting at the Spencer Shops.
whjco, you're always welcome around this neck of the woods. If you need anything while you're here let me know. Roadking, you're more than welcome anytime and could always use the company. I actually just got back from TN from looking at another 80 Malibu wagon. Seller described it as solid and no rust very nice. Got there and you could poke through the body and it was very rough, and that's being nice. So after 3 1/2 hours up and 2 minutes looking at the car we headed back empty handed. The good news is on the way back we got detoured onto 52S for an accident on I77 and found a 1959 Impala, very solid and cheap so we bought that as a bonus. In the meantime looked at a few cars locally and they were all pretty much shot. Looked at early muscle cars to classic wagons. Just missed a 64 Plymouth Valiant that looked pretty good. I'm on my way tomorrow to look at another Malibu wagon thats only 20 miles from my house and well within my budget. This one is cream with the brown interior, new headliner, new tires, V6 (wanted the V8, but can change that out later), auto, air, and pretty clean. Needs some brake lines and brake work, but otherwise runs. If I can buy it at the right price I can do a lot of mods so this may work out better. So, we'll see how it goes in the morning.....
Good Luck on that wagon tomorrow. I know where there is a car lot near Jonesville that has a couple of wagons they are nice cars not junk. If you would like to go one day I'll be glad to meet you at your shop or wherever. These guys are in to Buick GN,Mopars and such sad part is they are not cheap. I'll be glad to swing by you shop one day. I have lots of free time and not much to do. If you want I can pm you my home phone. BTW call me Cliff
Success! Bought the 80 Malibu Wagon I looked at today. All original, original paint, interior, engine. V6, air, new headliner, new tires, runs good. Radiator shot (Roadking helped me find a new V8 radiator), brakes to fix and get her titled and tagged next week. Looks a bit worn in places but this gives me a nice canvas to do whatever I want without having sunk too much in the purchase price. Got a good deal and now it will start it's slow transformation. Here's a couple of pics: Looks a bit rough, but I wanted to paint, do interior, 17" wheels, lowering kit, V8 (eventually), and update mechanicals. This should work out great. Now all the hard work begins. Will change the radiator and fix the brakes this weekend. Plan is to get it back on the road by early next week. Then work on it as I go. I guess this concludes my introduction, now I can switch to 1980 Malibu Transformation.....
You're right, nice canvas for the artist's hand. Please, no flower power paint schemes. Roadking is one resourceful son-of-a-gun. He pointed me to other Roller Paint sites that really helped with my paintjob. Way to go, RK!

That's right! All kinds of body parts, nakidly scant clothing. He's says he's retired, but I think he re-attires too.
