My Son and his Family live in Michigan. For over a year now I have not been able to use the route through Canada that I enjoy. We also host a lot of Canadian car enthusiasts at the Syracuse Nationals and other East Coast gatherings. While Syracuse is back on for this year it looks like that will not be an option for our northern neighbors again this summer.

There were actually three strings in this caravan. I'm surprised a LEO didn't jump them; the brakes on those rigs, not to mention the GCWR, was exceeded in each string.

They're headed for Mexico. They drive up here and attend auto auctions and buy the wrecks to repair or part out. We see them all the time. Sometimes they will buy buses and fill them with parts.

Man you learn something every day. Didn’t realize they offered an air cooled engine option on those SRS models. This is both a sweet looking car, and a rare bird to boot. Was it for sale?

So a friend picks up a barn find GTO Convertible and asks my buddy if he can get it running. The list kept getting bigger and parts were installed as they arrived including a new complete exhaust system.
Previous owner said it should fire right up. Now after numerous attempts to get spark and get engine to turn over, we tackled one issue at a time. Finally ready, I am inside to turn the key while my buddy primes the carb. Next I heard a large boom which blew one of the new mufflers apart. Once my ears stopped ringing we collectively decided the next item to check on this "it should fire right up" engine was the timing gears and chain. Found some play in the chain which could have allowed movement from top dead center as we turned over the engine and allowing it to fire on the wrong stroke. Replaced the timing chain and gears and a few other new parts. Engine now runs great.
Also replaced the muffler so I took the damaged one and made a one of a kind shop desk lamp that will have a back story several of us will remember.
