Hello all. Just bought this sweet 91 Roadmaster. Wanting to add long tube headers and dual exhaust but having a hard time locating vehicle specific headers. I’ve been told the same model Caprice headers for a 305 will work but I’m wondering how much modification (if any) is required. Hate to order some and get to the muffler shop abd they not fit. Muffler shop won’t source then for me like I had hoped. Anyone have any direction they’re willing to provide?
The Caprice is the exact same car underneath. It looks like there are quite a few mid length headers available. Hedman 68290 and 68296 are full length options. I'm more of a fan of shorty and mid length headers anymore. Sometimes full length headers hang down a little low and cause ground clearance issues.
That will greatly help! Any real difference in HP gains or exhaust rumble between the shorty, mid, and long tube? The cat on this car is trashed. Will a muffler shop discard the cat and go headers into duals? I normally deal with imports so I don’t have much experience with dualing out exhaust on a V8 but this car was too cool to pass up.
Long tubes are typically louder. Long tubes are usually better at higher RPM than shorties. Long tubes can be a bit more pain to install. Whether a muffler shop will remove cats depends on where you live and how the shop operates. Some will. Some won't. I'd be more inclined to go with shorties or mid lengths, but that is just me. I have always wanted to build an L30 and put it in a B-Body. Basically a Vortec 5000. You should be able to find Vortec 305 heads for cheap and they are a big upgrade over the L03 heads. The L03 cam is also pretty lame.
It probably depends on whether you have emissions testing where you live. If so, they probably won't do it.

Hard to say. Just because they will fit a SBC 305 doesn't necessarily mean they will fit your chassis. Those look like generic shorty block hugger headers. They might fit, they might not. It is hard to say without a part number. Have you looked on any of the regular header websites for headers (Hedman, Hooker, Flowtech, etc.)?
I looked on all those sites. Problem is when I put the Buick in for specific fit, they all say no. If I put same year Caprice with same engine, they all say yes. I’m told Caprice is the exact same car underneath so if they fit the Caprice they should fit the Buick.
