From 1966, a Chevy promotional video sent to dealers. I've not see this before. It's pretty good. Features Lorne Greene.
I have reservations about Lorne Greene having anything to do with the West or Westerns, given his Noow Yoahk accent. It would be sort of like having Hop Sing playing his role talking like a Czechoslovakian. I've got nothing against New Yorkers, in general. It would be the same, if Kojak were to talk like a cowboy. I wonder if Chevrolet Division would have gotten sued, if the video were to be broadcast on public television
Kind of pointless to be complaining about this now. Lorne Greene starred for 14 years in one of the most popular TV westerns in television history, "Bonanza," as the patriarch of a western ranching family, and he was one of the most popular stars in television at that time. No one had problems accepting him as a western character. He's been dead now for over 30 years, so his legacy has long been established. I doubt it. While it wasn't common, it wasn't unheard of for companies to name their competitors by name in their advertising and extolling the virtues of their product relative to the competition.
But, today we live in an age of conspiracy theorists who have become sensitive to anything which may seem out of place. It was on their behalf that this certain irregularity was pointed out
And Lorne Greene was Canadian, not a New Yorker (don't know where you got that, Hans....) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorne_Greene
Oh dear. I'll have to give some Bonanza re-run a close listen. He probably knew my parent's next door Canadian neighbor who flew bombing missions
Not to mention that people in the west, that weren't native Americans, migrated there from the East. So there were probably a lot of eastern accents in the west back in the 1800's when Bonanza was set.
Very few, if any, were Canadians whose parents left Russia, supposedly because their ethic group were targeted with violence
