Do you mean the Turkey Rod Run? I'm not sure yet. I know Zephyrhills is coming up soon. That's probably alot closer to you than Daytona. Btw, is this '83 a stock unadulterated car?
I've heard it get's bigger every year. Believe it or not, I've never attended. I had a friend that went every year until he passed away, and other friends who would go right after they had their Thanksgiving dinner.
Turkey Rod Run will be here soon. It's over Thanksgiving at the Daytona Speedway. Anyone with a show car, likes old cars, loves looking at cars and parts, or remotely is a CAR GUY should attend. We used to go over from Wed thru Sunday. Zipperhilzz is nice but not as large. When we weren't old and ugly we went to both. Sumpter Co car show and swap meet is also first Sunday every month, tomorrow.
Denny, I agree with you about being a serious "car guy" and attending the Rod Run should be a must.. I guess you can consider it mecca to any diehard gearhead. I'm just not into huge crowds. I've been to Zephyrhills about 10 yrs ago...never went back. It was okay...certainly not anything close to the Turkey Rod Run as far as size is concerned. I would also like to get to some of the Sumpter swapmeets one of these days.
It's the crowds and all of the walking why we haven't been back in a few years. It was always walking from morning till closing all weekend. There are very few places to even sit to eat except at your own car. Can't say for certain since we haven't been to Daytona show lately. But lots of people get a motel along A-1-A and sit in lawn chairs all weekend. The Bel Aire Plaza was a mini car show and the hotels across the street had cars and a few small vendors. There are a lot of places to stay or just drive over to park and watch cars go up and down the roads. At one time many fast food and restaurants had mini car shows and cruise ins which were fun. Still it was great for years and we have the memories. Even at the Sumpter Co show there is a lot of walking and fairly large crowds.
Yes, it's a steel bumper. I narrowed it, welded up the bumper bolts, and ground them flush. I'm not a huge fan of the plastic bumpers.
I had to narrow the rear bump support by cutting off a few inches off the ends. In a few places, I had redrill some of the bumper bolt holes...obviously they wouldn't line up if I hadn't. But that was no biggie. On the bumper mounts, I had to elongate the holes to allow more adjustability.
Yeah, I would imagine that there would be a lot of walking involved. You get dizzy looking at all the cool cars. My buddy who passed on, always told me about the motel parking lots being mini car shows. The whole town comes alive. It sounds like a good idea to pack your own grub and beverages.
