Very good point fannie. We needed the woman's touch to give this thread real meaning.
Goodbye Ray Smith. Enjoy the extra time away from these dreaded computers. I'd do the same but my wife has me tied to this chair and barb wire around my desk hooked to 240 volts. And those guard dogs look hungry just beyond the alligator filled moat.:slap:

That you use the words trip and pot in the same sentence is to imply a pun, Ma'am?

Hey Ray! I know that feeling. When our TV networks went digital, I even took the rabbit ears off. I can actually hear my own opinions about our news and politics! And then the major Telco, who also runs our WWW service, tried pushing digital TV. I asked the guy if he'd pay me to use my telephone media for his promoting his company's services. "Well! No!" to which I said you just answered your question.

I'd cut the phone and internet off too, if it wasn't that I use it to find bargains or freebies:

    https://www.freecycle.org/

Got a piano for free in nice condition, from it. Paid for all my Telco bills for 2 years! Got rid of old doors and windows because the receiver has to pick up at his costs.

Works in most US and Canadian cities.

And hunting down Unobtainium car parts?

    http://car-part.com/index.htm

Anyway. besides the ongoing Domestic Spying issue. in both our countries, the WWW can be a dollar-saver. The phone is up for doubt though.

I know that feeling. When our TV networks went digital

For us that was June 1994. Haven't watched TV at home since. And what makes us not miss it was watching Un reality TV and other crap when visiting our kids.
Alto I had a weak moment over Black Friday. Since we bought a home back in Illinois I decided to get over-the-air digital there so bought a new flat screen TV for my wife to stare at. If we ever get moved we'll see how that goes with local networks. Already have a black magic box antenna for over air. Even that don't work here in the boonies.
I get all my news off the internet. I know that's all true. Internet doesn't lie.

    Internet doesn't lie! :rofl2:

Guys like Murdoch love people that believe that. News Corp.

I grew up learning a few languages, so I can connect to news sites in most of Europe and make some sense of Portuguese news, French, German, Spanish, Italian and even the King's English. I'm stuck with Asian and Arab language sites.

Our dear media is shy to publish anything that would indicate that they deal with countries they publically denounce. We get half the facts, and rhetoric.

For instance, our SNC-Lavallin, huge Canadian contractor, was one of the major bribe contributors to Gadhafi in Libya. Our copper mining corps are in huge lawsuits in Chile and Peru, for blowing up mountains that contaminate local waterways and destroy mountain villages and towns.

Our own TechCorp (also copper mining), in BC, drops copper refining chemicals into the US side of the Columbia River, and has for decades - they're working out an out of court settlement and planning how to stop it - BS!

And then we have the Alberta famers and oil/gas companies pumping water from Montana's Milk River to irrigate their cattle farms or fill up the oil/gas wells at a rate of 300,000,000 gallons per year, and Montana Ranchers are PI$$ED! Since the mid-2000s!

I can go on, but you get how blind-sided we are by any news source.

Sadly, you have to see it, from outside your own country's news sources. Ours don't trust us to think things through.:taz:
