Hello all, I am looking at replacement of the fan/heater/blower motor in my newly aquired 1971 LTD Country Squire. This car has factory installed A/C so all the things are covered by plastic and I am unable to locate the blower motor. I would like to know if you access this from the dash side or the engine compartment side? Also, how invloved is this job? I have found out there is a difference between a factory installed and a dealer installed blower motors too. Thanks for the help.
Well, now I know. Since posting here I have discovered what it takes to replace this blower motor. Removal of the passenger side outer and inner fender are just some of the fun invloved. Another method requires cutting a hole in the inner fender and then accessing the needed area thru this hole...and of course this requires a patch too. No matter what, the job is not an easy or quick one indeed. By the way, the engine is a 429.
Yup...that BB takes up some room. Still...I think I remember something about that but my 'ol brain doesn't work like it used to. If I think of it I'll be back to post. I THINK there's an easier way IIRC. Not an easy way...an EASIER way.
Check out Autozone's online manuals or get a Chilton for your car. Fords aren't usually known to be impractical to fix. Well, other than my Fairmont heater core. (Full dash removal on an AC equipped heater) http://www.autozone.com/autozone/
Is yours the plastic one too? They really suck. Cracks and creaking with every jostle. Is there a cure for plastic arthritis?
No, the Dash structure. On the non-AC Fairmonts/Zephyrs/Cougars the heater core comes out through the glovebox. Piece of cake. On the AC cars, it's major surgery. I can see why they relocate it (the AC hoses would be toast next to the V8 manifolds) but they could have made a removable panel in the dash.
Well...it IS a Ford product. And most dashes have a lot of plastic. No noises in the Mark though. Yeah...provisions could have and should have been made. The Mark has a shipload of electronics that don't help matters.
Mine's not noisy either. It's the torture on your ears when you take the dash off to fix the heater or restore the car. Good thing it's not a monthly routine. I can imagine what the bill would be to change that heater core, compared to the NON-AC car. Drop the steering column, take the wheel off, disconnect the harness, remove the gauges, the dashpad, the front seats too. PAIN, PAIN, PAIN! Ok, I've vented. I'm OK, now. Thanks SF.
Well...glad I could help! I dred the day I have to do mine. Thinking about selling it though. Don't want to...it's a hell of a driver and nice. But if I get a wagon or two...well...I guess it would go. I would almost like to keep the engine and build it and put it in a car something like yours. But I don't want to ruin the Mark.
