Anyone got ideas or experience about long distance crating and shipping services?

I might have lucked out finding a Free transmission from San Antonio Texas. I'm thinking that the train would be the lowest cost, but maybe not as efficient as a trucking service.

Crating might not be an issue, since San Antonio isn't a small town. Not sure if my wife's relatives in San Antonio are car-savvy, or even good with a saw and nails or able to separate the entire transmission (4 speed from the 6 cylinder engine ). But some forwarding company in SA probably has folks that can make up a wood crate for it (Bellhousing to tailshaft and shifter, etc.)

Do you know anyone or can get to just across the border? I think greyhound is cheapest but, don't go cross border. I have been cursed with having to use UPS, when shipping parts into Canada, from California.

    Really?

Never thought about them. I could pick up at the Border. They stop in Pembina, ND. about 75 miles south, but I'll check with them here. Thanks for that idea.

No problem. And yea, it was an option I was looking into. They are especially good for larger and heavier items. Do you have many connections for parts in the US? Im always looing for full size ford stuff.

No more than anyone. But!

There's some good parts sites down in the rust-free south:
    http://www.ctcautoranch.com/index.html

    http://www.ctcautoranch.com/Parts%20Cars/Parts%20Cars.html

    And these guys in Arizona:

And if you can polish up your spanish, here's some rust-free search engines:rofl2::

    http://www.olx.com.mx/

    Argentina is a bit particular:
    http://pasodeloslibres.olx.com.ar/

    http://corrientescapital.olx.com.ar/

Just pick the country from the list at the bottom:
    http://es.ookly.com/

Those are like our Kijiji sites.

Being a Ford man, you already know about these guys, right?

FourEyedPride has a neat feature, but you won't see them listed unless you sign in:

    FREE PARTS:
    http://vb.foureyedpride.com/forumdisplay.php?75-FREE-PARTS-(NO-SALES-OR-TRADES)

Non-member parts found on other sites - Part 1:

    Part 2:
    http://vb.foureyedpride.com/forumdisplay.php?119-FYI-Ads-**Four-Eye-Related-Cars**

Those last two provide links to what members have found, while looking for parts, because they know that other members might be interested.

Obviously, for your full-size fords, those so-called Fox parts wouldn't be of much interest, but the links might be useful sites for your needs. :yup:

Amazing how many guys are shoe-horning big block ford powertrains into those tiny fox beasties. :rofl2:

Ok, cool. I have recently been dealing with a wrecking yard in ridgecrest, Ca. called speedway auto dismantling. Great people to deal with and are good for older vehicle inventory.

You may or may not know, that Ford made different Fords in Australia for South America and Africa (Zaire especially).

How would one of your full-sized Fords run with a stock Turbo-charged DOHC 6 or v8?

Mexico doesn't have them, but Brazil and Argentina do.

I've used R+L Carriers here in the states for shipping heavy car parts before and have had success. I shopped them around for price the first time and used them a couple times afterwards.
