I'm getting really tired of the wire wheel covers on the Way Back Machine.
Looking for a good set of Rally II's, but no luck so far.

While doing a CL search, I came across these 15 X 8 Honeycomb wheels off of a mid 70's Trans Am.

Now, these of course would have a 5 X 4.75" bolt pattern. My question - would these fit on the Way Back Machine, using a bolt pattern adapter? Tires would be something around a 275/60R15.

    Bolt pattern

If your wagon is a GM product they should fit.
Back spacing ? You will just have to check , but I think they will be fine !!

When using spacers/ adaptors use red Loctite on the lugs (car's not adaptors) & do not use the cheesy-cheap adaptors, send good $$ for quality.

Seen a couple of these sets for sale, both for $300. I was primarily worried about the adapters causing the wheels to be too close to the wheel opening metal on the inside - don't want rubbin'........

A guy on the Longroof forum suggested swapping the front rotors for ones with the 5 X 4.75 bolt pattern (there is a direct bolt-on replacement), and then redrilling the rear drums for 4.75...... Sounds like this wouldn't be too pricey.

You re-drill the rear drums makes no sense, new drums would be cheaper. But you would have to rip out your axels and have them re-drilled and from what I understand they now, re-drilled would be out of balance and or just how much metal meat is going to be left at one, if not 2 of the studs after your done? So you mite as well look for new axels .......

Never been a fan of the adaptor plates...........

Patience KK, patience, don't jump into a WTF was I thinking(y)

That's what I'm doing. Hard to go "Wait a minute...." after you've jumped off the cliff......

Part of the asking questions thing is I don't like complications. Already screwed up one thing for the wagon - getting fiberglas fillers when I find out there's urethane ones available. At least I haven't installed them yet.

WHAT?!!! Urethane IS available? NOOOOOO. I primed and painted those fiberglass fillers you told me about last week, and just finished installing them yesterday! :banghead3:
Oh well, I'm sure these will break soon enough...

Where can I get the urethane ones?

I've always loved those wheels. But I am not a fan of adapers. Changing the front rotors is a good plan and probably not much more costly than the adapters. But that leaves the rears still a problem.
I lost the game. I'm out.
Oh wait. Swap to a TransAm rearend with disc brakes.

Been there, done that before so here is my 2 cents.
I used to have a Recycling Yard for 13 years and boy did we have wheels. We also saw a lot of people make bad or unsafe wheel choices.
Your Way Back Machine runs the larger 5x5" GM bolt pattern. This is the same pattern used on GM full size pickups and Vans including Astro Vans. You could check out different style wheels from these vehicles and maybe find something you like. Be careful of older style wheels from 60's or 70's that may not accommodate for disc brakes. Sticking close to your current wheel width and backspacing is also important and I think you will find the truck and van wheels very close to what your wagon has now. If you find a wheel you like, try it for fit on the front and the rear of your wagon to insure you have proper clearance.
Changing the lug pattern is not always as easy as some people make it sound and using adapters would be something to be cautious of. There are also a wide variety of aftermarket wheels with uni-lug bolt pattern that might meet your needs. Check the internet for companies that have deals on wheel and tire packages. I dealt with one several years ago that was able to determine for me the correct width, backspacing and tire size on a set of 17" wheels for one of my builds. The fit and look was perfect for the car.
The Pontiac wheels are a nice looking wheel but my guess is you are not going to be totally pleased with what it will take to get them to fit your car.
Keep doing your homework like it appears you have started. I am sure you can find the correct wheel for the look you are going for.

Everyone listen to Rmay folks. He's talking from experience. I agree on finding something in the bolt pattern and approximate size you already have. By the way, I love wire wheel hubcaps. I put them on a 1980 Malibu.
Krash when you are driving that way back wagon you can't even see the wheels.:yahoo:
Now step back from the cliff!

Yeah, Z - I feel bad about recommending that place to you, but I just found out myself - somebody posted up a link in another thread - it was an old Buick sedan that was missing the fillers, and somebody else threw up a link. I saw 'urethane', and sure enough, they have the box wagon ones.........

I've got the specs on my wagon, it's just that I'm having trouble finding something that I like and will fit. I want something that looks if not 'factory', then something that looks 'Pontiac'. #1 choice is the Pontiac RallyII's, but I haven't found a set yet that's good and close enough to me. The Snowflake wheels are even more rare in the 5 X 5 bolt pattern. Another option is the lace alloys that came on the Astro and Safari vans. They have the correct bolt pattern, and would be an inexpensive option. I'm just not sure I want to use them.

I've even looked into the possibility of using some wheels off of a Jeep Grand Cherokee. They have the same bolt pattern, but the hub hole is a bit too small, and they have the wrong offset. One advantage - some are in 16" and 17" sizes, which would be nice. They even sorta look 'Pontiac-ish'

Nah, don't worry about it. I didn't end up buying any for the rear. I fabricated some that work great. Once those start biting the dust I'll replace them, and now I know where to go!

When you first posted about wanting the snow flake wheels I did some searching and found that they weren't to be found.

What about some steel wheels with trim rings and baby moons? Paint the wheels a color to match your body - looking good.
