Tried doing an intro post here the other day, but the board sent a message saying "first must be approved." So, now will try again.
Ok, the board software seemed to like my second try better, so now let's see if it will accept a photo.
All seems to be functioning, so here is some additional background. My wagon came from San Diego originally, where I purchased it sometime around 1990. It has the 429 2-barrel, medium blue metallic and blue interior. From the factory it was a 6-passenger, but I upgraded it to be a 10-passenger.
I'm in Central Ohio; if anyone knows of an old-car-friendly mechanic or shop near here, I'd appreciate a referral. Most local shops don't seem to be interested in working on older cars and/or the experience level isn't the best. A problem I've had since I've owned the car: there is a slight hesitation when I first press the accelerator pedal. It acts like it's going to stall, then it comes back. Sometimes I have to feather it, and the symptoms lessen as the engine gets warm. The carb was recently rebuilt and that didn't change anything. My suspicion is one or more vacuum leaks, as I know I've got several. But I'd like to find someone who can correctly diagnose the problem, as opposed to simply start replacing parts and hope the problem is eventually solved. Thanks!
Beautiful wagon there, retropia! Off-idle he.........sitation is a common problem in late 60's - early 70's American iron. Your guess to start with the vacuum lines is a good idea. Welcome to the forum. Marshall
No interior photos that I can think of, but I should be able to snap a few and post them in the next few days. The interior is fairly plain. It's functional, not super luxurious like the later Country Squires became. I did upgrade to the factory AM-FM stereo from the original AM radio, but I haven't yet added the in-door speakers. It has the in-dash speaker plus the two factory speakers in the cargo area, plus a front-to-back fader switch mounted along the lower edge of the dash. Somewhere along the way I acquired the correct door speaker grills, in the wrong color, but it won't be a problem to spray them the matching shade. Thanks for the compliments!
Looks great. Hideaway head lights. I had the same problem recently with my car. Step on the gas and it stutters. I adjusted the carb because it was way too rich and flooding. But that showed me I had a vacuum problem. Today I was looking through everything and I found a busted PCV valve hiding in the back. Let me know if you fix it. I may have a problem I am not aware of yet.
thats freekin luvly man as for the 'start' hesitation...its the 'accelorator pump on the carb...its alil 1+1/2" square rubber diaphram at the front of the carb ....that goes to crap after a while....get a rebuild kit(cheap) slap that in and your golden to our funky joint....and once again,....thats purdy
