Strand Craft builds super yachts, and the company also builds supercars as its ships' tender, the SC 122 and SC 166. But in case you don't want (or can't afford) a yacht but love Mustangs and wagons hatchbacks - or perhaps you own one of the company's yachts but want a new tender - Strand Craft says it plans to build a special one-off Mustang, a custom sport wagon based on the Ford Shelby GT500.

Let's be clear, the photo you see here is not of the actual car; the hatch and revised bodywork have been photo-edited in. But it looks slick, and we hope the real thing, which Strand Craft says will be built by a "world-renowned car builder" in Los Angeles, doesn't stray too far from this preview.

Available to purchase in April for an unspecified amount of money, the Shelby wagon will retain the supercharged 5.8-liter V8, but it will be upgraded to make 850 horsepower, 188 hp more than the production version. That should be good for a 0-60 miles-per-hour time of 3.3 seconds, Strand Craft says - with the dog in the back.

The interior will feature Recaro seats and a generous amount of leather - even in the hatch area. A 1,000-Watt, seven-channel audio system by McIntosh will allow the sole owner to bump tunes at ridiculously high volumes while retaining clarity. We hope to see the finished product next April, but in the meantime, feel free to click on the image above for an enlarged view.Yacht builder plans one-off Ford Shelby GT500 Sport Wagon originally appeared on Autoblog on Thu, 31 Oct 2013 09:29:00 EST. I hope I have a climate controlled room on my yacht to park that car. Be nice to cruise around on those small deserted islands.
I know Mary Ann and Ginger would like it.

I like it! They can keep the stereo - V8 music is all that's needed....

The lift-over for the tailgate would seem to be kind of high unless the tail lights are part of the hatch. Looks like the hatch would close on top of the tail lights.

Model T - Ginger rides shotgun....

You are right. You'd need a ladder to load or unload anything. And yes, Ginger rides shotgun----with me. Just don't tell my wife!:D

I think I need to see this from the side before I decide if I like it. It doesn't seem to be that much of a conversion.

Model T, wouldn't Mrs Howell be more your speed?:disagree:

I am afraid it doesn't do much for me. Looks like the window sill is at about chin level and the top of the window at eye level. A root beer mug has more glass. I would rather have a bone stock 1969 Mach 1. Call me a curmudgeon.

It sort of looks like one of those little volvo things.

If you were to buy one i dont think you would worry about lifting the groceries over the tailights.

Mrs Howell would be a wise choice, considering I'd need her money to buy the yacht or the car. Just call me Lovee.:)

Its pretty cool in concept, but I'm not sure about the implementation. As mentioned previously, need more pics. Its hardly more than a fast back roof line. Keep the roof line level or nearly level ALL the way back and I think we're on to something. :D

Certainly not. The roofline is so sloped, that I would be reluctant to even call it a shooting brake.

A Shooting Brake is what a station wagon is/was called in a far away land across the water. Kinda like looking for the engine under the bonnet.:rofl2:

Doesn't do it for me either. If I had that kind of money burning a hole in my pocket, I'd just buy a CTS-V wagon or a Mercedes E63 and build one of those.
