WARNING - WARNING- WARNING Before purchasing anything from Larry Brown aka Collector Cars and Parts Exchange be forwarded of my experience. I recently negotiated a puchase of a 55 with Larry. We agreed on a purchase price of $28750 plus shipping on the following conditions. 1) That the car title be in his name 2) That pictures of the vin tag and registration would be sent to me. Larry Brown agreed to this and requested a $500 deposit be sent to him via Western Union. The Western Union was sent to him on Saturday, March 16th. On Monday, March 17th, Larry Brown messaged me to say that HE WAS NOT WILLING to put the vehicle in his name, ( this breaches our agreement). He then said he WAS NOT WILLING to provide photos of the vin tag or registration ( again breaching our agreement). - This makes it impossible to do a lien search putting my complete investment in jeprody not knowing if the car ha sa lien or if has been reported stolen. At that time I insisted that my deposit be refunded, which he agreed to and said he was going to town to do it and he would send the MTCN money transfer number. HE HAS NOT and is NOT returning emails. This leaves me to take action by contacting Boarder Security, The Missouri Highway Patrol and the IRS in an attempt to get my money back. Be very careful and aware of Larry Brown aka Collector Cars and Parts Exchange

Unfortunately, you are in BC. Never send any money via Western Union. Even Craigslist warns about this. For anyone else, if you live in the USA always send a USPS money order. IF he defaults it become mail fraud and they will pursue him. Make sure you fill it out including his name and address and then make a copy of both sides for your records.
Got that and normally i would never do it. I dropped my guard and got burned real good. Just getting the word out so he doesnt get anyone else.
If you'd like more info on ways you could collect: Please send me $500 via wire transfer and I'll send you the info immediately! But seriously.....Unfortunately there are a few out there that need a good butt-kickin'.. makes it tough for the rest who are trying to make honest deals. Good luck in your endeavor.
Thanks for the warning... He's also got a facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/collectorcars And has MANY cars listed for sale here: http://www.collectorcars.fotki.com/
NOTHING, and I repeat, NOTHING substitutes for a personal inspection of any vehicle (and supporting documentation) you are buying. If you can't do it yourself, you need to set up an independent inspection with somebody you know or was recommended to you. Buying a special-interest or classic vehicle is too much of an investment to simply 'trust' the seller unless you've had prior business. My Safari was in Wisconsin. I'm in Oregon.I would not even have considered buying it without a good look, which someone from this forum was kind enough to do for me. The seller then e-mailed copies of the title docs for my review.
Thanks for the warning. I don't often buy across the border but as my daily drivers get older this is something of which I need to be aware. Already, though, there are certain precautions I do take when buying things over the net, or in the U.S. through any other means. If possible I pay using a pre-paid Visa card. Since there is no credit available beyond pre-paid balance, no additional charges can be authorized. Also, Visa does not take kindly to credit card fraud, so they get involved rather quickly should there be a problem. If that method is not available to me, then I send a Canadian Post Office money order, if that is acceptable to them. That means that mail fraud laws apply as well as international mail fraud laws. Failing that, I send money to a friend in the U.S., and have them purchase a USPS money order. One way or the other, though, I am not left on the hook, should the seller be unethical. So far, though, I have been very lucky.
Sorry to hear about this, hope it works out for you. It is also very important to research sellers before making any purchase over the web.
For coming across the boarder into Canada, it is best that the names on the bill of sale and ownership jive. Seeing the vin and reg papers is mandatory to be able to do a lien search and to be sure a car isnt stolen. Tonight I am receiving threats of legal action from him for going public with this. I'm sure he'll change his tune tomorrow when the police arrive to talk with him. With luck and enough pressure put on him he will return the funds tomorrow. Stay tuned but know its taken 18 hours today to fight to get him to respond and finally (say) he is refunding me in the morning.
Hmm, better not tell him of the multitude of other posts on the internet referencing his fine character and salemanship.
