I'm with you on that. Especially if you're still building up a family, the house, yard shed, etc. And grocery-getting for the whole tribe, too! :biglaugh:

Norm's right. When I was a one car guy we had a wagon. At least when there were diaper bags, strollers etc to cart around. Then when the kids were older we had a wagon to haul the household stuff like plywood, sheet rock, lawnmowers, fertilizer etc.

I have to admit that once we became a two car family the wagon went away. A two door coupe and a small pickup truck were the cars.

I still have the two door coupe, small pickup truck and now have added the wagon.

I think the prolification of the multiple car familys have done away with the wagon. The "new" wagons just don't cut the mustard for me. When I loaned out my truck for a year to my son it was replaced with the wagon. It's the only thing that could do the job. It won't hold a refrigerator but a washer and dryer does fit!

We got them as direct decendants of Horse and Buggy Station wagons, up until the early '90's. After that, the new styles are more hatchbacks/hunchbacks than wagons. Besides the 'New School' folks will come to site for a look at the 'Good Old Days'... :rofl2: And a few swipes at us die-hard dinosaurs. Been there, done that. :)

Sadly, My protege5 can fit some bigger stuff than the Country Squire :(

I'd rather scratch up the protege than the squire any day. So, no big deal.

Wagons will be back! In addition to my big ol' Bonneville I also own a 2003 VW Passat wagon. I can't tell you how many times someone has said to me "wow, thi thing is as big/ bigger inside than my (insert name of SUV here)"
SUV's caught on so much because wagons were seen as uncool family cars, while SUV's were portrayed as macho activity trucks. With so many men today being so "un-manly" they try to get their masculinity from their vehicles. Only thing is that truck based SUV's don't ride, handle or get the milage of a car. All of these SUV's are slowly evolving back into wagons. In fact several of the so called "cross over utility" vehicles are pretty much wagons now, just with a fancy name that makes the wussy guys feel touh driving them.:rofl2:

It's time now to replace the Passat and I'm a little bummed about the lack of GOOD wagons available out there now. I was really hoping that the Pontiac G8 Sportwagon was going to make it here. 363 Hp and a six speed manual would have had me hauling the family around in style.:p Unfortunately no Sportwagon. Looks like it'll be another Passat- nothing else out there that is remotely sporty with a manual trans that doesn't cost a small fortune.
