I got it home in the dark and that weird oil light happened when I pulled in so then I had my buddy look at it. To dark to do any pics. How do I post a video clip of the oil light flickering at idle?

Ok MAK, I took some pics in my garage but its dark out. I drove it 45 mins home and then 2 more 20 minute runs. Drives great, better then my wife 2014 Hyundai Accent. It takes some use to getting this beast slowed down though. It has an alpine radio, she didnt have the original radio and put in upgraded speakers so thats kinda cool but also not kinda cool. Car has 64,000 ish miles, the odometer broke last year at 61,900 . I saw this car over a year ago and that was known then and there is a book with all the fill ups and also the mileage for every hear she owned it and she averaged 2000 miles or less per year with one outlier year in 2015 when they drove it to North Carolina for a family trip. The power steering whine is not constant and seems to go away and then come back but I noticed it leaking the day I went to see it. Just got back from a ride with the family in it, my son thinks its soo cool and he rides in my other cars so thats a pretty big compliment. More pics next good weather day. Front tire is 28 years old so that needs to replaced asap, hopefully Wed. She left the plates and insurance on it for me until I get that squared away. I have a pic with me my wife and her today at her house, she was emotional. The daughter and son were cleaning it and vacuuming it when we pulled up. They even gave us a Christmas card they had made with them and the car lol. Looking through paperwork and receipts, I think I got a pretty good car. New right and left side muffler replaced last month, I only thought she did one. Oil change 3 months ago so I dont have to worry about that for awhile. Also new air filter at that time. At that service it was said the power steering pump needed to be replaced with an estimate, she said she didnt know about that but I asked for $300 off because luckily I noticed the leak and whine, sneaky!!! Both front door window motors were replaced on 6/23/17, not cheap, nice .Wow she did oil changes every 6 months, that is just a waste of cash. New battery on 4/18/17 by AAA. Alternator done 2012. New rear drums and brake lines 2012. Front brake pads have plenty of meat left. Both wiper blades replaced a couple of months ago. New alpine radio in January with ipod connection and upgraded speakers. She gave me a 1988 Mercury Grand Marquis owners manual, with the service receipts and a spread sheet of all the services done. Shit thats GOOD. She also gave me a 3rd key she didnt know what it was for, its oval at the base. Will have to try it once I am done with getting rid of over a foot of snow bere, so far, ughhh

Check the connection on the oil pressure sending unit. It should be just above the oil filter on the front driver's side of the engine.

Power steering pump is easy to rebuild if it is leaking. You can rent a power steering pump pulley puller from any parts store to get it off. The rest just requires simple hand tools.

Here are a couple of walk-throughs. The factory service manual also lays this out pretty clearly.

Thank you KEVIN, the diagram is awesome. For about $110 I think we will put a new pump on and will check out the oil sensor also. Cant wait for the warmer weather.

Might have to rebuild it, the reviews of the ones they sell are horrible. . Reviews say they fail very quickly, after a few months and they are rebuilt ones anyways.

thanks for the pcs, car s silver? if so, that is a rare color for Ford/Mercury wagons. Sounds like this was car worth waiting for. jealous that your wife and kids think its great, mne refers to my wagon as the "hunk of Junk" and my kids think I'm nuts.
Good friend stopped by the store the other day, noticed my wagon and when I told him its mine - his reply was "I'm not surprise it's something only you would do"

congrats , now if I showed up in your Cobra! you would hear it all the way up in CT.

Its actually very light blue. It was snowing here most of the day so I couldnt get any newer pics. For some reason i thought the interior leather was chipped but its not at all. The only blemish is one door strap needs new leather on it. I think the sun must of been shining off of it. I was just outside checking it out, lowered the back seats and they didnt go down great, I think they were never lowered and yes I got the seatbelts out of the way. Just figured out that u have to push the button down to get to the bench seats, im an idiot, thought a second lock was broken. The door lock on the drivers door unlocks and locks everything but not the back door, the plunger silver thingy goes up and down but the actual lock doesnt move. Ha my son actually doesnt like the cobra too much, its very loud and draws a ton of attention. He doesnt like that but its my favorite car so the poor kid is forced to ride in it, too funny. Time to change my avatar, hopefully tomorrow the sun will be out.

So there are 2 small tire shops in my town, goto the first one and they wont do one tire even though my Dad has bought tires from them, aholes. I goto the next shop, walk in and a buddy of mine from Highschool is behind the counter, I say u work here, he says I use to but I bought it 6 years ago, YES!!! Finds a whitewall tire and its getting delivered this afternoon and I will get down there today if time prevails. Here some pics, not Sunny out but some sun. Also the steering pump didnt make a sound (only 13 minutes each way). I paid $5800, my highschool buddy loved it. He couldnt believe how nice it was, a customer wouldnt let me leave, he kept asking questions about it, I think its gonna get alot of attention. Posted it on facebook and people want me to take them to the drive ins and out for ice cream lmao. He still has his Chevelle from back then. He is a real gear head, he also gave me a good price for some Michelin Sport 4s for my vette, he beat the prices I looked up online from the big guys. So glad the other place were dicks to me. I just wish I knew 6 years ago he bought it. Mary first said 15,000 and the next day she said oops I messed up $7500 and I said I have a budget of around $4000. I didnt hear from her for 3-4 months and then she emailed me saying its negotiable and she really wanted me to have the car because of my excitement, that I belonged to a station wagon forum, the stories I told her and how I take care of my other cars. It took a year and a half but im very happy. I could sell it and make money but im keeping it. I helped the guys put the spare tire in the wheel well because I was worried they would mess up the thin sheet metal quarter panel. Gotta do the power steering pump next and then tackle the odometer but im worried im gonna damage the pristine dashboard. It does leak alittle oil out of either the oil pan gasket, main rear seal or front gasket. Will keep track of that with a dated piece of cardboard and tackle that when its needed but will have a garage do that one. Emailed an upholstery shop about making me a carpet for the cargo area and doing the drivers side pull strap but no one has gotten back to me. For now I covered it in a piece of cardboard which I cut to fit. Gonna check the oil sensor also. Waiting for warmer weather. I tried to race a camero off the line today, he didnt know I was gonna take off like that, he almost didnt beat me to where it merged into one lane. I should of put in in D instead of overdrive, maybe next time.

The power steering pump is easy, just get a decent rebuild kit. The odometer and trip odometer gears are also pretty easy. Most of the trim pops off and what doesn't is easy to see where the fasteners are. Just take your time and don't break anything plastic. Make sure you get the right replacement gears. I think there are two variations based on where the odometer and trip odometer are on the cluster.

I would also check the valve cover gaskets and the rear of the lower intake manifold gasket for leaks.

I have driven the car alot over the last 2 days. It is like driving a couch, its super smooth and you can drive it with one finger UNTIL you hit a big pothole and the whole thing rattles and shakes for a second and then it goes back to being a dream to drive. I put the booster seat thingy in there and my son loves driving in it because he can see everything with all the glass. Took it for 40 minute each way ride with my son to the batting cages and it drove awesome. Decent power, power steering pump still whines from time to time and when I got there it smelled like burning oil via the leak. There is no oil leaking from the head gasket. There is a constant buzzing sound and it sounds like its coming from the back but its bard to tell. The radio and speakers pump, way better then my vettes. My son loves music so thats a big plus. Spare tire holder hardware is missing, the seller is gonna try to contact the tow truck driver. Wedged some cardboard in there and the jack is in place so no rattling. On the 30th I am getting the driver door pull re leathered and a rug that I can roll up is getting made for the back. Going to the DMV tomorrow a.m. wicked early to get it registered. High of 32 today and 36 on sat and sun so its gonna be awhile before I tackle any of the projects.
