85 caprice with the velour like cloth. its that horrible tan, and looks dingy to me. in previous experience when i try to use the carpet cleaner, it sucks dirt up from the cushion into the fabric and makes a mess.

I have a front load washer, and im wondering if i could take the upholstery off and wash it on delicate without the fabric shrinking or tearing. has anyone tried this?

Ask your wife to show you the wash-label on one of her nylon/polyester jackets. You want warm water, slow-spin at least. Not fast spin-dry. If you can, hang it or better yet, lay it out on old sheets to dry (avoids sags). Don't use any fabric softeners or those scented dryer toilets - the chemicals will coat the fibres.

Then get some of 3M's water-proofing spray -Scotch-something??? before you reinstall, unless you're going to dye it. The 3M is the last step before reinstallation, anyway.
