I have been in the wholesale supply business for contractors for a long time and witnessed a lot of old station wagons turned into pickup trucks. Years ago I never thought I would want to purchase one of those cars. They were sort of the "cheap working truck of the 70's and 80's... I can rememeber loading way to many bundles of asphalt shingles in a 70's chrysler wagon. We even put several hundred pounds on the roof. Most of those have probably been crushed and melted down by now. I am surprised there are so many people who want these cars now... I wasn't thinking they would be so popular. I just started visiting this site a couple of days ago. My dream station wagon to own would still be the cars that were our family cars in the late 60's and early 70's.
Welcome aboard. Looks like you're in the very early stages of "stationwagonitis", an affliction all of us on the forum share. The only cure for it is to own one!
Start looking, Cold Steely. Let's see - what was a popular wagon in the late 60's, early 70's? Ford Country Squires for sure, although by that time the Torino wagons were selling real well. The mid-size wagon market got very big about that time. A huge Chrysler Town & Country qualifys as a road-going luxury liner, the large GM wagons were just finishing up their body style run that went from '65 to '70, soon to come out with the unique 'clamshell' tailgate. We've pretty much got at least one of everything here on the forum. What's your pleasure? You might want to browse the gallery and our garage to get an idea on some wagons you may have forgotten about in the intervening years..... Good Luck. Marshall
