front_view.jpg Hello everyone, been a while since I posted(newborn in the house and all)
Am slowly making progress. The Fairlane should be out of the shop next week. I ended up rebuilding the complete front end.(sourcing some of the parts was a drama, NOS idler arm off Ebay $36 bargain, inner tie rod ends $75 each not so good!) My mechanic is great, it is acutally a Mustang shop in Ft Worth(everyone who comes into the shop comes and checks out the Fairlane not the Shelby's!)
He has rebuild the power steering system, front end(a lot of work on a 63 Fairlane, new shocks. rebuild carb. rebuild brakes, and serviced the transmission. All for $1600 which I think is pretty reasonable. Parts I supplied cost me about $600. Here's a couple of photos.

Hey dw, it's great that you are making progress on your Fairlane!

And yea, I do think getting all that work done by a good mechanic that knows his stuff and that you trust, is worth the money you have paid!

Congratulations on your new baby! :yippee:(I'm referring to the one in diapers, Henry...not the one on the lift!)

I like big pictures, so I'm enlarging yours for us all to see! :p

    David :)

Some guys just have great luck finding good shops! His rates sound great to me, considering he's known for premier quality. Keep pluggin' away. (y)

    Very Happy

Thanks Stormin and Wixom. Yes I pretty happy with his work. There is now way I could have tackled the front end myself. You need special tools and know what your doing. I watched him take the springs out(broke his spring compressor that works fine on a mustang) and that was enough to deter me. Because you can't buy new lower control arms for my car he had to cut the old ball joints off? and re-spot weld the new ones on. Can't wait to drive this wagon have owned it since May and have driven it about 200 metres.
    More as I go

It's looking better already. I'm sure you're eager to drive this beauty; hang in there-they say good things come to he who waits and I'm sure that'll be the case with you.

    Man,

I am jealous as there is another wagon that is alot cleaner than mine! Where is everyone finding these rust free works of art? That definetly will draw alot more attention including the shelbys.....no offense to Shelbys as I love them too but what you have is something truly unique....I also get a lot of attention with mine in my body shop as well....people always ask did they make a 2 dr falcon wagon (always seem to think there was some custom work to remove the other two doors)

    Pretty Excited

Thanks as usual for everyones upbeat/kind words. Am looking forward to getting some driving time in this old girl. I will hopefully get the panel/body shop work out of the way, then look to get paint on her by the end of summer the original Glacier blue.(the interior can wait till I save up a few more dollars and have more time on my hands) The only rush is I will need the Fairlane to drive to work a couple of days a week when my wife takes our 3 year old to school! at the end of August.
Am jealous of Blackadder with his 64 Mercury how much work he has done in such a short time:2_thumbs_up_-_anima. I guess having a new born and a 3 year old has slowed me down. But now rush I am enjoying the process. Here 2 more shots. one of the Squire off to the Mechanics and the other is a 65 Fairlane that I got a manual winder/regulator for my tailgate untill I can find a new motor for my electric window(good luck I know) Thanks again for the encouraging words 65_fairlane.jpg fairlane_to_keiths.jpg

I could never paint such a mint origonal body, it's just 2 stuning with it's patina, it's honest and true:dancing:

Blackadder? WTF LOL, I would trade my Merc for yours in a sec, seriously though, the guy who I bought my wagon from is still supposed to give me extra parts including a 6 bolt bell housing, an extra tail light lense (If he can find it and unknown condition) and possibly another motor for the rear window. I am not sure it will work because I dont have it yet but if I ever get my hands on it I will get it to you if you want. Just no more Backadder? LOL Its Blacksnake, I spent alot of money to get that "handle".

    Sorry

Firstly sorry to Blacknake. Nothining worse than someone messing with your name. Where I lived in Australia there was a Red Belly Black Snake that was pretty cool(Bright red Belly).
I would be very happy to pay something for that tailgate motor if you ever get it(even if it doesn't work!)Did you sell that roof rack? Anyway sorry, I was thinking of the Blackadder TV show from the 1990's got it wrong!

Secondly Silverfox and Tedy. I'm all with the Patina idea(when guys start talking about slamin? these old cars, I have serious doubts!!) Anyway on previous threads I mentioned this car sat under a pecan tree for 18 years. AFTER he removed the original paint he primed it (now getting rusty I guess the pictures don't look like primer) and then painted the roof with spraycan! white(Unfortuneately from new you counldn't order a white roof Squire, solid colour cars only). So after body work when I can afford it I will paint it orginal colour, get new 3m wood from stripeman.com(the vinyl thats on there now is not the orginal vinyl, it looks like drawer liner! luckily the surrounding trim is in good shape)
There is still some glacier blue inside the doors so I will clean that up and keep some of the patina. Thanks as always for everyones support:)
